What's wrong with blisters from cupping

Cupping is a classic method of treating and preventing diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. We can do cupping while taking a bath in a bathhouse or at a traditional Chinese medicine clinic. However, some people will develop many blisters on their backs after cupping. There are different explanations for this phenomenon, which often makes people very confused. The actual reason is definitely the most concerning. So, what is the cause of blisters from cupping? Let’s take a look at the reasons below.

1. The patient has more wind, cold, dampness and toxins in his body, with dampness being the most prominent.

Bubbling is also a sign that evil spirits are escaping. Sometimes small water droplets will appear on the wall of the jar, which is also a sign of dampness.

2. Long tank retention time

This varies from person to person and is also related to physical constitution. Some people can leave the cupping for 20-30 minutes without any bubbling, while others will see bubbling after 5-10 minutes. So generally the first time cupping time needs to be shorter. Once you understand the patient's condition, you can relax the time appropriately.

3. The temperature of the jar is high

There is only a small possibility of this. Sometimes when doing flash canning, if the can temperature is too high, the possibility of foaming will increase if the can is left in place.

4. Differences in location

When the same person is cupped, some parts of the body are fine, while other parts will have blisters. Generally speaking, blisters are more likely to appear on the back, sides, and buttocks after cupping.

5. Cupping is too heavy and exceeds the tolerance

The size and number of blisters largely reflect the condition of phlegm, fluid and dampness in the body. If the blisters are obvious, numerous, white, and the surrounding skin temperature is not high, it is a syndrome of cold and dampness; if the blisters are not very obvious, few in number, slightly yellowish or turbid, and the surrounding skin temperature is high, it is a syndrome of dampness and heat.

6. The skin is more sensitive

Due to differences in body parts, if the skin in some parts of the body is more sensitive or thinner, cupping may cause blisters.
