Which department should I go to for premature heart beats

There are several types of premature heart beats, including functional premature beats and rational premature beats. Functional premature beats are rare among young people, and most of them have no identifiable causes, because excessive smoking, drinking and frequent coffee drinking can cause premature beats. Pathological premature beats, such as myocarditis and coronary atherosclerosis, are relatively common.

Disease diagnosis

The normal heartbeat originates from the sinoatrial node. If it is emitted from other parts of the heart, it is medically called premature beats. Premature beats can be divided into four types: sinus, atrial, nodal and ventricular. Ventricular is the most common, followed by atrial, and sinus is extremely rare. Among the ectopic rhythms seen clinically, premature beats are the most common, which are divided into functional and pathological types. Functional premature beats generally do not require special treatment, but pathological premature beats need to be dealt with in a timely manner, otherwise it may cause serious consequences and even endanger life. Therefore, not only doctors, but ordinary people should understand and master the knowledge of distinguishing functional and pathological premature beats and make timely judgments, which is of great significance for the prevention and treatment of diseases.

(1) Functional premature beats

It is not uncommon among young and middle-aged people. Most of the time, no pathological causes can be found. It is often caused by mental stress, overwork, smoking, alcoholism, drinking strong tea, and coffee. It usually occurs in quiet times or before going to bed. The premature beats disappear after exercise. Functional premature beats generally do not affect physical health. After a period of time, most of these premature beats will heal without treatment, so no treatment is required. However, you should pay attention to the combination of work and rest, avoid excessive stress and fatigue, be optimistic, live a regular life, do not overeat, drink excessively, and do appropriate physical exercise every day.

(2) Pathological premature beats

Premature beats are also common in patients with myocarditis, coronary atherosclerosis, rheumatic heart disease, hyperthyroidism, mitral valve prolapse and digitalis poisoning. These are pathological premature beats and are common in the following situations: occurring in the elderly or children; an increase in the number of premature beats after exercise; those who have been diagnosed with heart disease; and other abnormal ECG changes in addition to premature beats. Pathological premature beats should be taken seriously, and you should go to the hospital for an ECG as soon as possible and use medication under the guidance of a doctor. If severe and frequent premature beats occur, it is best to be hospitalized for observation and treatment.
