Moxibustion treatment of varicose veins

Moxibustion treatment of varicose veins

Many people suffer from varicose veins. Generally, varicose veins are located in the calf area, making the blood vessels look thick and purple, which affects the appearance. It is especially obvious for women wearing short skirts in summer. If varicose veins are not serious, no treatment is required. If they are serious, attention should be paid to them. Moxibustion can be used to treat varicose veins. I will introduce it to you below.

Varicose veins of the lower limbs are a type of venous reflux disease. Due to the effect of gravity, the venous blood in the lower limbs flows back in the opposite direction, causing blood stasis in the lower limb venous system, leading to tortuosity and dilation of the lower limb veins. Coupled with venous valve insufficiency, earthworm-like protrusions appear on the lower limbs. This disease is more common in middle-aged and elderly people, and often occurs in people who work in standing positions for a long time. A small number of people have a family history of heredity.

Clinical manifestations: Patients with varicose veins in the lower limbs will feel soreness, numbness, fatigue, heaviness in the affected limbs after standing for a long time. The superficial veins will bulge, expand and twist, and even curl into a ball. They are more obvious in the calves and ankles. The course of the disease is long, and patients with severe varicose veins may develop thrombophlebitis and local pain. The skin is tender and the varicose veins appear like hard cords. The skin in the foot and boot area undergoes nutritional changes, including skin atrophy, desquamation, pigmentation, itching, and even eczema and ulcers (commonly known as old leg rot). If the ulcer does not heal for many years, it may become malignant and even cause systemic diseases. After blood clots are organized and calcified, they form venous stones; varicose veins may rupture due to ulcer erosion or trauma, causing acute bleeding and endangering life.

Acupuncture is often used to treat varicose veins. It can effectively reduce swelling, pain and soreness. Fire needle therapy and bloodletting are also used to treat varicose veins on the legs of varicose vein patients.

1. Acupuncture treatment: Take the meridians compressed by varicose veins in the affected limbs and perform acupuncture treatment. Generally, varicose veins in patients often compress the spleen meridian and kidney meridian. Acupuncture points: Taixi point, Sanyinjiao, Zhubin, Yingu, Xuehai, Chengshan, etc.

2. Fire needle treatment: After pricking the protruding varicose veins with fire needles, cupping is performed locally. If there is blood stasis, it can be removed.

3. Bloodletting therapy: Use a three-edged needle to prick the varicose veins to cause bleeding, even spurting out blood, to the point of suicide, and then use a cupping device to draw out the blood stasis. The treatment is done once every 10-15 days, and the amount of bleeding each time is about 100 ml.

Typical case: A woman in her 50s has suffered from varicose veins for many years and now has swollen and sore calves every day. Local pain. The skin is tender and the varicose veins appear like hard cords. The skin in the foot and boot area undergoes nutritional changes, including skin atrophy, desquamation, pigmentation, itching, and difficulty walking every day.

I used the above method of acupuncture, fire needle and bloodletting therapy three times, and my symptoms improved a lot. Later, I had acupuncture for another 5 days and now I feel good.

Nowadays, when patients feel unwell, they use moxibustion to burn the local area. However, the effect of using moxibustion alone is very slow, but it can improve symptoms.
