Where is the femur

The femur is an important bone that supports the upper part of the human body and is divided into only two parts. It is mainly located below the pelvis. There are often very inexplicable symptoms. First of all, problems with the femoral head are more common and more complicated. In addition, it may be accompanied by femoral head necrosis or femoral head injury. For some diseases of the femoral head, you must have a correct understanding and knowledge, and do not ignore them after they occur.

What is the femur?

The femoral heads are the two bones that support the upper part of the body. They are located below the pelvis, with an acetabulum on each side of the pelvis. The two femoral heads work together with the acetabulum to support the upper body. If viewed from the outside, it is located at the lower back of the buttocks. The femur is the most important bone in the human body, and the femoral head is even more important. A person's upright walking, activities, and labor all rely on the supporting function of the femoral head. Therefore, the femoral head is also the most vulnerable part.

Common symptoms

The most common femoral head disease is femoral head necrosis. Femoral head necrosis

Death is avascular necrosis of the femoral head, also known as aseptic necrosis of the femoral head. The symptoms are that the blood supply to the femoral head is destroyed due to various pathogenic factors, resulting in femoral head osteonecrosis due to bone ischemia.

Femoral head necrosis is a disease in which the blood supply to the femoral head is interrupted or damaged, causing the death and subsequent repair of bone cells and bone marrow components, which in turn leads to structural changes in the femoral head, femoral head collapse, and joint dysfunction. Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), also known as avascular necrosis (AVN), is a common and intractable disease in the field of orthopedics.

ONFH can be divided into two categories: traumatic and non-traumatic. The former is mainly caused by hip trauma such as femoral neck fracture and hip dislocation, while the latter is mainly caused by the use of corticosteroids and excessive use of drugs.

The reason why femoral head necrosis is caused by trauma is due to damage to the blood vessels supplying the femoral head, such as damage to the lateral epiphyseal blood vessels. Once these blood vessels are damaged, the femoral head will completely or partially lose its blood supply, and ischemic necrosis can occur 8 hours after the blood supply is blocked after the injury. It can be seen from this that osteonecrosis can occur very early in displaced femoral neck fractures. Avascular necrosis of the femoral head accounts for 85% of displaced femoral neck fractures and 15%-25% of non-displaced fractures.

Avascular necrosis of the femoral head may also occur after needling of intertrochanteric fractures. This is caused by needling of the femoral head, because the lateral epiphyseal vessels may be injured during the needling process (the needle enters the femoral head from the upper side or back of the femoral head). Damage to this blood vessel can cause local ischemic necrosis of the femoral head, and eventually collapse of the weight-bearing area of the upper femoral head. In addition, sometimes a direct blow to the hip can cause avascular necrosis of the femoral head, and acute hip dislocation can also cause avascular necrosis of the femoral head.
