How to solve the problem of large and small grapes

Grapes are a fruit that many people like to eat. For farmers who grow grapes, it will be troublesome if a bunch of grapes are big and small, because this will directly affect the yield and quality of the grapes, and directly cause relatively large economic losses. The size of grapes can be solved through certain methods. During the growth process of grapes, attention should be paid to water control, fertilizer control, and reasonable pruning, etc.

Reasons for grape size

First, the issue of variety. Some varieties are prone to have large and small grains. Such as Kyoho, Jingya, etc.; some varieties generally have no large and small grains, such as Hongshuangwei and Zizhenxiang.

Second, the tree is too vigorous. For example, for Kyoho grapes, if the trees were too vigorous and the new shoots were too thick last year, the new shoots that grow this year will generally be too vigorous and too long. Coupled with improper control of water and fertilizer in early spring, the size of the grapes will definitely be particularly serious.

Third, climate reasons. If it rains during the flowering period of grapes, it will cause poor fertilization of the grapes and the occurrence of large and small grapes.

Fourth, the human factor. If pesticides are sprayed on grapes during their flowering period, it will also cause poor pollination and the formation of large and small grains.

Fifth, the tree is weak and the nutrients during the fruit formation period cannot meet the needs of fruit expansion.

How to solve the problem of grape size

1. Water control: Before flowering, the soil 10 cm below the surface should be able to form a ball when squeezed by hand. Generally, water it twice before flowering. For low-lying areas or heavy clay soil, water it once or do not water it.

2. Fertilizer control: Do not apply nitrogen fertilizer before flowering, and give little or no organic fertilizer. After fruit setting, when the fruit grains grow to the size of soybeans, they need large amounts of fertilizer and water. More phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied from the hard-core stage to the coloring stage.

3. Reasonably adjust the plant load: Grape vines over 4 years old should weigh around 10 kg. During the flowering period, if the fruiting branches are less than 20 cm long, no fruit will be retained. If they are over 20 cm long and 1 cm thick, double bunches of fruit will be retained. Especially for strong branches at the bends of the frame and the tips of the branches, double bunches of fruit or single bunches of fruit on two branches should be retained to weigh down the branches with fruit.

4. Reasonable pruning: Strong branches (branches thicker than 1.2 cm) within 25 cm of the fruiting branch distance should be thinned out. If the distance between fruiting branches exceeds 20 cm, multiple bud pruning should be adopted to fill the empty spaces. However, when removing buds and determining branches in the spring of the following year, the two ends should be kept and the middle should be removed. The branch distance should be controlled well. If the branch distance is about 25 cm, you can leave 3 buds and cut them off. When removing buds and determining branches in the spring of the following year, remove the top buds, leaving 1 to 2 buds for fruiting. Double clusters of fruit can be left on strong branches. The distance between fruiting branches should be 15 to 20 cm. Keep the basal buds to bear fruit and remove the rest to keep the tree at a moderate vigor.
