What to do if the tooth bone protrudes outwards

What to do if the tooth bone protrudes outwards

The condition in which the alveolar bone protrudes outward is medically called alveolar bone protrusion, and many people suffer from it due to genetic factors. Alveolar bone protrusion is related to oral health and has a great impact on our facial appearance. If there is a problem of alveolar bone protrusion, it will cause great psychological pressure. Therefore, the method to solve the protrusion of alveolar bone has become the most concerned issue for patients. So, what should we do if the alveolar bone protrudes outward? Let’s take a look below.

What is the cause of alveolar bone protrusion

Due to the various adverse effects of the alveolar bone, many people are very distressed. So, what is the reason for alveolar bone protrusion?

1. Generally speaking, the most common reason for alveolar bone protrusion is due to genetic congenital factors. In many families, if the parents have alveolar bone protrusion, the children will mostly have alveolar bone protrusion as well. This is innate and cannot be chosen. But it is also possible that this feature was not inherited, which is not impossible. The chance of heredity is unavoidable.

2. Another common problem is that children do not pay attention to dental problems during the period of tooth replacement in childhood. For example, children often touch their growing teeth with their hands, or often use their tongue to resist new teeth, or eat very hard things when new teeth are growing, which causes abnormal tooth growth.

3. Some unhealthy living habits may also cause alveolar bone protrusion. For example, when the teeth have not yet fully stabilized and formed, habits such as licking teeth frequently, biting chopsticks, chewing with one side of the teeth, and breathing with the mouth open may cause alveolar bone protrusion.

Solution to alveolar bone protrusion

The protrusion of the alveolar bone will have different degrees of impact on our life, social life, etc. If the protrusion of the alveolar bone develops to a later stage, it may cause gum atrophy, and then cause the occurrence of oral inflammation such as gingivitis or periodontitis. So it would be better to have some treatment.

If the degree of alveolar bone protrusion is relatively mild and only the teeth protrude outward, it can be corrected through general orthodontic methods, such as wearing braces. However, generally the alveolar bone and teeth protrude together more, then surgery is required.

When severe alveolar bone protrusion leads to buck teeth, underbite and severe chin retraction, which cannot be corrected by braces alone, bone correction is required, usually maxillary osteotomy or double jaw surgery. Generally, if the protrusion is more serious in the upper jaw, the tooth behind the canine tooth and the gum bone are removed, and the teeth and gum bone of the upper jaw are moved as a whole to restore the teeth to normal position.

When correcting alveolar bone protrusion, you must pay attention to the proper care of your teeth and oral cavity. Oral hygiene must be paid attention to. Also, you must pay attention to your diet and ensure nutrition.
