Is a weasel bite poisonous?

The scientific name of the weasel is Mustela yellowus. This animal often feeds on small animals or birds. If the weasel encounters a threat, it will release a very unpleasant odor to protect its own safety. The number of this animal is very small now, and it can only be encountered in rural or remote areas. If you are bitten by it, you need to be treated in time. So is the bite of a weasel poisonous?

First, is a weasel bite poisonous? It won't cause poisoning, but it is possible to be infected with bacteria, so be careful when handling it. After being bitten by a weasel, rabies vaccine and hemorrhagic fever vaccine need to be injected within 24 hours. If the wound is bleeding or the wound is on the upper limb, immunoglobulin needs to be injected within seven days.

Second, weasels are mammals. If people are scratched or bitten by mammals, regardless of whether there is bleeding or not, as long as the skin or mucous membranes are damaged, they should be injected with human rabies vaccine. If you are more than 48 hours after exposure (bite), double the initial dose. Rabies cannot be seen with the naked eye. Rabies is an acute infectious disease caused by the rabies virus. It is preventable but not curable and is a zoonosis. It is mainly transmitted by bites or scratches from infected dogs, cats and wild animals. Once the disease occurs, the mortality rate is almost 100%. The rabies virus mainly invades the human body through bites on broken skin. Clinically, the first symptoms are fever, swelling, itching, numbness and pain around the wound, followed by fear of water, light, wind, sound, excitement, and madness, eventually leading to paralysis and life-threatening.

If you are bitten or scratched by a rabid dog or other animal, you should immediately take the following emergency measures: Wound treatment: Wounds should be treated immediately. Use 20% soapy water or 0.1% chlorhexidine to thoroughly rinse all wounds or itchy areas. Repeat the rinse for at least 30 minutes, and then apply 70% alcohol or 2% iodine. Vaccination: You must go to the county health and epidemic prevention station or local health center in time to get a human rabies vaccine. Application of anti-rabies immune serum: For those who are seriously bitten, such as those with more than three bites on the head, face, neck, hands or multiple parts, you should be injected with rabies serum and human rabies purified vaccine at the same time on the same day. Wounds bitten by animals should not be bandaged or sutured.
