After tonsil surgery

After tonsil surgery

In order to effectively treat tonsils and reduce the harm of tonsils to the patient's physical and mental health in the shortest possible time, many people in real life will choose surgical treatment. We say that after the tonsils are removed surgically, the body will gradually recover, and the most important thing during the recovery period is health care. In short, attention should be paid to postoperative care. So what are the issues that need to be paid attention to after tonsil surgery?

Postoperative care

1. Observe for bleeding and tell the patient to spit out all bloody secretions in the mouth and not swallow them. For children undergoing general anesthesia, pay attention to whether they have frequent swallowing movements to estimate the possibility of bleeding. If fresh blood is vomited, check and stop the bleeding in time.

2. It is advisable to drink cold drinks or fluids on the first day after surgery, and eat semi-liquid food on the second day, but it should not be too hot. After 1 week, the patients were fed a soft diet and resumed a normal diet after 10 days. If the patient is unwilling to eat due to wound pain on the first day after surgery, acupuncture at the Hegu point can be used to relieve the pain.

3. The patient may have a fever reaction on the first day after surgery. If the temperature does not subside after 2 to 3 days, the cause should be checked and antibacterial drugs should be added to prevent infection.

4. Rinse your mouth with 1:5000 furacilin solution 24 hours after surgery to keep your mouth clean.

5. A white film will form on the wound 6 to 12 hours after surgery and begin to fall off 5 to 7 days later. The wound will heal after about 10 days when all the white film falls off.

6. For patients who have their tonsils removed due to lesions, antibiotics are still needed after the operation to prevent infection.

Tonsillitis is a common disease among teenagers, and many of them need to undergo tonsillectomy. If patients have a more correct understanding of postoperative care knowledge, they can recover and regain health faster.

Precautions after tonsillitis surgery.

1. Prevent bleeding

Within 24 hours after the operation, since the wound has not healed completely, some oozing blood may be mixed with saliva and spit out. This is a normal phenomenon. If you find that blood is coming out of your mouth from time to time, it means that the wound is bleeding. The simplest way is to use cold compress: use ice cubes, ice bags, or towels or cloth soaked in ice water or cold water, and apply them to the forehead and both sides of the head and neck. If you keep spitting out blood clots from your mouth and the amount increases, you need to go to the hospital for further bleeding control.

2. Relieve pain

There will be varying degrees of pain for a period of time after tonsillectomy. To help relieve pain, you can drink cold drinks appropriately or use cold compresses (same method as above). Pressing or acupuncture on the Hegu point can also have a certain effect. It should be said that the pain will gradually subside and disappear from the second day after the operation. It is worth pointing out that painkillers should not be used casually.

3. Pay attention to body temperature

After the operation, due to tissue damage during the operation and the absorption of some exudate in the wound, fever of varying degrees may occur. Under normal circumstances, the body temperature will not exceed 38°C. If the body temperature exceeds 38°C, appropriate cooling measures should be considered after excluding the possibility of secondary infection of the wound.

4. Rinse your mouth promptly

After the operation, due to some exudate from the wound, coagulated blood clots and residues in the mouth, there is a fishy smell in the mouth from time to time. Especially after the wound is infected, the bad breath is more serious. Rinsing your mouth with some mouthwash immediately after surgery can help clean the wound and reduce inflammation.

5. Healthy diet

The wound after tonsil surgery is in the mouth. Due to the pain, the patient often refuses to eat or does not eat food, which is not conducive to the recovery of the wound. Generally speaking, within six hours after surgery, patients can eat some cold liquid food, such as milk, soy milk, malted milk, nutritious soup, lotus root powder, ice cream, ice bricks, etc. When the condition stabilizes, you can eat some semi-liquid food, such as porridge, soft noodles, bread, etc. After a week, you can eat soft rice and steamed bread, but avoid eating fish with fish bones or meat bones, so as not to damage the tonsil wound during chewing and swallowing, causing bleeding.
