Eat a little and your stomach will be full

Some people feel full after eating a small amount of food, so they suspect that they have a serious stomach disease. They have a gastroscopy, but the diagnosis results have not shown any stomach lesions. In fact, this may be caused by indigestion and is not due to some organic disease. Doctors call this disease "functional dyspepsia." However, since gastritis and even gastric cancer can also have similar symptoms, a thorough investigation is necessary before a diagnosis is made.

1. What is postprandial fullness syndrome

If you do not have ulcers or tumors, but have symptoms of indigestion such as bloating after meals, bloating after eating a small amount of food, stomach discomfort, nausea, belching, etc., and these symptoms last for at least 6 months, then it can be said that you have functional indigestion. The currently recognized causes of functional dyspepsia include gastrointestinal motility deficiency, Helicobacter pylori infection, genetic factors, diet and lifestyle habits, etc. In fact, the occurrence of functional dyspepsia is often the result of the mutual influence and interaction of these factors.

2. What is functional dyspepsia

There are uncomfortable symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, upper abdominal distension, early satiety, belching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, etc., but no abnormalities in the structure, morphology and biochemistry of the digestive system are found clinically. In other words, the prerequisite is that your gastrointestinal tract, liver, gallbladder and pancreas are not damaged.

3. Main symptoms of functional dyspepsia

1. Early satiety refers to the feeling of fullness shortly after eating, resulting in a significant reduction in food intake.

2. Upper abdominal distension often occurs after meals, or persists and worsens after meals.

3. Early satiety and upper abdominal distension are often accompanied by belching. Nausea and vomiting often occur in patients with significantly delayed gastric emptying, and the vomiting is mostly the stomach contents of the meal. The pain often occurs after overeating and is relieved or disappears after vomiting.

4. Many patients also suffer from mental symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, headache, and inattention.

These symptoms are related to the "cancer fear" in some patients.

5. Symptoms may also change during the course of the disease. The onset is usually slow, lasting over years, and may persist or recur. Many patients have dietary, mental and other triggering factors.

4. How to treat functional dyspepsia

Treating functional dyspepsia is a relatively long process. Even if there is some improvement during treatment, it is very easy to relapse, so you must be prepared for a tough battle and do not stop treatment as soon as the symptoms improve. The simplest treatment, and one that works for most people, is to adjust your diet and lifestyle. Rice, bread, yogurt, apples, etc. can help alleviate the symptoms of indigestion, so you can eat more of them. However, irritating and spicy foods, carbonated drinks, alcohol, strong tea, etc. may aggravate indigestion, so you should eat less of them. In addition to what to eat, how to eat is also important. Irregular meals, eating too fast, etc. will aggravate indigestion, so eat three meals a day regularly and chew slowly to enjoy your meals.
