What is gastric polyp and is it serious?

Polyps are growths that appear on the surface of human tissues. They can appear in many parts of the body, such as nasal polyps, nasal polyps, colon polyps, gastric polyps, etc. Gastric polyps are polyps that occur on the gastric mucosa. They have no obvious symptoms when examined, and abnormalities can only be detected during relevant examinations. So, what is gastric polyps and is it a serious disease? Let’s take a look below.

Gastric polyps are a relatively common gastrointestinal disease . They are mainly caused by the proliferation of surface tissue due to the influence of various factors on the gastric mucosa. Patients with gastric polyps are usually discovered accidentally through endoscopic examination or X-ray examination. Patients with gastric polyps will experience abdominal distension, abdominal pain, stomach discomfort, and a few may have symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, which seriously affect the patient's life and must be treated in time.

The dangers of gastric polyps

1. When gastric polyps first form, patients may not feel any special symptoms because the polyps are small. As the polyps grow larger, patients will often experience irregular dull pain, stabbing pain, contractions or colic in the stomach, which makes them feel very painful and uncomfortable.

2. The formation of gastric polyps will affect the normal peristalsis of the stomach, and food will not be effectively digested and absorbed by the stomach, which will not only lead to symptoms of indigestion, but also symptoms of malnutrition.

3. Many patients will experience mental anxiety, irritability, restlessness and other adverse mental symptoms due to the occurrence of the disease. These adverse mental symptoms will not only promote the growth of gastric polyps, but also affect the patient's mental health.

4. If gastric polyps are not treated effectively in time, they may develop into malignant changes, not only causing gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric ulcer, gastric perforation, erosive gastritis, but also carcinogenesis, leading to the occurrence of cancer.

Dietary considerations after gastric polypectomy:

1. Do not eat after the operation. After the intestinal peristalsis is restored and the anus is exhausted, you can drink a small amount of water on the day after the gastric tube is removed, 4 to 5 tablespoons each time, once every 2 hours. If there is no adverse reaction, an appropriate amount of clear liquid food can be given the next day, 50ml to 80ml per time.

2. On the third day, give full amount of liquid, 100-150 ml each time. Eat 6 to 7 meals a day. The dietary principles are: non-irritating and liquid food, eat small meals frequently, and eat every 2 to 3 hours. Choose food that does not cause bloating and is not too sweet, such as egg soup, rice soup, vegetable soup, lotus root powder, etc. It is advisable to lie down for 20 to 30 minutes after a meal.

3. If the patient recovers normally after the operation, he/she can eat a low-fat semi-liquid diet, such as porridge, noodles, wontons, etc., 5 to 6 meals a day two weeks after the operation. The dietary principle is: it should be semi-liquid, the protein content should meet the normal requirement, the fiber content is very low, and small meals should be eaten frequently.

4. After discharge, the patient can eat soft rice. The staple food and side dishes should be nutritious and easily digestible. Avoid eating raw, cold, fried, sour and spicy foods that are irritating and prone to bloating. The patient should chew slowly, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, avoid high-fat foods and pickled foods, supplement iron and vitamins in moderation, avoid smoking and drinking, and eat regularly. 3 to 6 months after the operation, you can gradually return to a normal diet according to your physical condition.
