How to clean gold jewelry at home

Among many jewelry, the most popular one is gold jewelry. Everyone knows that after wearing gold jewelry for a period of time, it will become dark and lose its luster, and will not be as bright as before. Some jewelry with patterns may hide some dirt inside the patterns. When this happens, many people will choose to go to a jewelry store for cleaning. In fact, we can also clean the gold jewelry at home using some small methods.

1. Removal of dust from gold jewelry

To clean dust and dirt from gold jewelry, the easiest way is to gently scrub it with a soft brush dipped in hot water. It is best to use a cotton ball dipped in soapy water and anhydrous alcohol to scrub it, but do not use abrasive particles (such as toothpaste, polishing paste, fine sandpaper or fine emery cloth, etc.) to scrub it, so as to avoid reducing the weight of the gold jewelry and causing losses.

2. Washing of gold jewelry

When washing gold jewelry, you should first put the gold jewelry in a container, add water to the container, then add a small amount of ammonia, then cover the mouth tightly, shake it back and forth vigorously, then take it out and wipe it dry. When wearing gold jewelry, you should also maintain the snap switch.

3. Removal of white spots on gold jewelry

Since some commercially available cosmetics contain trace amounts of mercury, such as phenylhydroxymercury and mercuric dichloride in freckle creams, gold jewelry will have white spots or turn white after contact. At this time, do not scrape with a knife or polish with sandpaper. Just bake the jewelry with white spots or turn white in the fire, then wipe it clean with a soft cloth, and the gold jewelry will regain its original luster.

4. Clean the dirt on the surface of gold jewelry

When the surface of gold jewelry is stained with dirt, its color will become dull. At this time, you can use the developing powder for developing photos, add 30-40°C warm water to make a developing solution, and then add twice the amount of water to dilute it. Put the dirty gold jewelry in it and soak it for 4-6 minutes. Then use a soft brush to brush off the dirt and rinse it with clean water several times. If you use a fine tweed cloth dipped in nail polish to rub it lightly, the gold jewelry will be brighter.

5. Soak and clean

First take 1000 ml of warm boiled water (40-C), then add 200 ml of glacial acetic acid to make an aqueous solution. Then soak the gold jewelry in this cleaning solution for 10 minutes, then scrub it with a brush, and finally rinse it with clean water. When you are not wearing gold jewelry, keep it in a box and avoid placing it together with other metals as it will easily wear out.
