Du Meridian Course

One of the eight extraordinary meridians in the human body. The Du meridian governs all the yang meridians in the body. All six yang meridians intersect with the Du meridian at the Dazhui point. The Du meridian has the function of regulating the Qi and blood of the yang meridians, so it is called the "sea of ​​yang meridians." Main reproductive function, especially male reproductive function. The Du channel starts from the uterus, goes down to the perineum, then runs along the middle of the waist and back, goes up along the spine, passes through the neck to the Fengfu point, enters the brain, then goes back up to the head and neck, along the midline of the head, through the top of the head, forehead, nose, upper lip, to the lip frenulum (see picture). The acupoints of this meridian are Changqiang, Yaoshu, Yaoyangguan, Mingmen, Xuanshu, Jizhong, Zhongshu, Jinsuo, Zhiyang, Lingtai, Shendao, Shenzhu, Taodao, Dazhui, Yamen, Fengfu, Naohu, Qiangjian, Houding, Baihui, Qianding, Xinhui, Shangxing, Shenting, Suoliao, Shuigou, Duiduan and Yinjiao, a total of 28 points.

Du Meridian Acupoints

1. Changqiang Point

Location: Below the coccyx, at the midpoint of the line connecting the coccyx and anus.

Anatomy: In the anocaudal diaphragm; contains branches of the anal artery and vein, continuation of the interspinous venous plexus; contains the coccygeal nerve and anal nerve.

Indications: diarrhea, dysentery, constipation, bloody stool, hemorrhoids, insanity, spinal cord stiffness, stranguria, genital itching, pain in the lumbar spine and coccyx.

Compatibility: Combined with Erbai, Yinlingquan, Shangjuxu and Sanyinjiao, it is used to treat hemorrhoids (damp-heat descending type,); combined with Jingguan, Erbai and Baihui (moxibustion, it is used to treat prolapse of the anus and hemorrhoids.

Acupuncture and moxibustion: insert the needle obliquely, with the needle tip pointing upward and parallel to the sacrum, 0.5 to 1 inch. The rectum must not be pierced to prevent infection, and moxibustion is not allowed.

2. Yaoshu Point

Location: In the sacrum, on the posterior midline, opposite the sacral foramen.

Anatomy: Located in the posterior sacral ligament and lumbar fascia; contains the posterior branches of the middle sacral artery and vein, and the interspinous venous plexus; and contains branches of the coccygeal nerve.

Indications: Back pain, diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, bloody stool, epilepsy, stranguria, irregular menstruation, paralysis of lower limbs.

Compatibility: with bladder points (moxibustion, changqiang, qichong, shangliao, xialiao, juliao) to treat cold pain in waist and spine; with taichong to treat spinal stiffness, convulsions.

Acupuncture and moxibustion: Insert the needle obliquely upward 0.5 to 1 cun; can be moxibustioned.

3. Yaoyangguan acupoint

Location: On the lower back, on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra.

Anatomy: In the lumbar dorsal fascia, supraspinal ligament and interspinous ligament; there are posterior branches of lumbar artery and interspinous subcutaneous venous plexus; there are medial branches of posterior branches of lumbar nerve.

Indications: Lumbar and sacral pain, paralysis of lower limbs, irregular menstruation, leucorrhea, spermatorrhea, impotence, and bloody stool.

Combinations: Bu Yaoyangguan, Shenshu, Ci Liao, and Xie Weizhong are used to treat low back pain, cold limbs, and frequent urination; combined with Yaojiaji, Zhibian, Chengshan, and Feiyang, they are used to treat sciatica and low back and leg pain; combined with Bladdershu and Sanyinjiao, they are used to treat enuresis and frequent urination.

Acupuncture and moxibustion: Straight insertion 0.5 to 1 inch; moxibustion is also acceptable.

4. Mingmen acupoint

Location: On the lower back, on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the second lumbar vertebra.

Anatomy: Located in the lumbar dorsal fascia, supraspinal ligament and interspinous ligament; contains the posterior branch of the lumbar artery and the interspinous subcutaneous venous plexus; contains the medial branch of the posterior branch of the lumbar nerve.

Indications: Low back pain due to deficiency, spinal stiffness and bending, enuresis, frequent urination, diarrhea, spermatorrhea, leukorrhea, impotence, premature ejaculation, leucorrhea, repeated miscarriage, five kinds of labor and seven kinds of injuries, dizziness and tinnitus, epilepsy, panic, cold hands and feet.

Compatibility: Combined with Shenshu and Taixi, it can treat spermatorrhea, premature ejaculation, soreness of waist and spine, weakness of feet and knees, enuresis, urinary retention, edema, dizziness, tinnitus and other symptoms of kidney yang deficiency; combined with Baihui, Jinsuo and Yaoyangguan, it can treat tetanus convulsions; moxibustion of Mingmen and Shenque with salt can treat stroke; combined with Guanyuan, Shenshu and Shenque (moxibustion, it can treat morning diarrhea; tonifying Mingmen, Shenshu and Sanyinjiao can treat kidney deficiency and low back pain; draining Mingmen, Ashi points, Weizhong and Yaojiaji points can treat low back sprain and hypertrophic spondylitis; combined with Shiqizhui and Sanyinjiao, it can treat dysmenorrhea (cold-damp stagnation type) moxibustion, and; combined with Dachangshu, Bladdershu and Ashi points (moxibustion, it can treat cold-damp arthralgia and low back pain.

Acupuncture and moxibustion: Straight insertion 0.5 to 1 inch; moxibustion is also acceptable.

5. Xuanshu point

Location: On the lower back, on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra.

Anatomy: In the lumbar fascia.
