The stomach is an important organ in the human body. Its main function is to digest the food we eat and then fully absorb the nutrients in the food to ensure normal metabolism of the body and maintain human health. However, many people suffer from stomach discomfort and nausea due to irregular diet or bad eating habits. The appearance of this symptom is generally a sign of diseases such as peptic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, functional dyspepsia and acute gastritis. 1. Peptic ulcer Damage to the mucosal tissue lining the gastrointestinal tract, most commonly in the stomach and duodenum. Epigastric pain is the most common symptom. The pain of duodenal ulcer mostly occurs on an empty stomach, and the patient is prone to wake up in pain at night. The pain can be relieved after eating or taking stomach medicine. The pain of gastric ulcer often occurs half an hour to an hour after a meal, and eating can easily induce pain. In severe cases, complications such as bleeding, perforation, and obstruction may occur. Dietary advice: Avoid foods that stimulate gastric acid secretion, including alcohol, coffee, strong tea, and spicy condiments, and reduce the intake of foods that are too sweet, too sour, and high in oil and fat. In the past, it was believed that milk could protect the gastric mucosa, but recently it has been found that high calcium can stimulate gastric acid secretion and may lead to lactose intolerance, so drinking too much milk is not encouraged. When an acute ulcer occurs, it is advisable to eat foods that are nutritious, less residue-rich, and easy to chew and digest, such as tender leafy vegetables without stems, peeled and seeded fruits, and tender lean meat without tendons. Fiber was once considered a taboo in the ulcer diet, and many patients therefore did not consume enough fruits and vegetables. However, recent studies have found that the fiber in the diet can protect the stomach from ulcers, and the vitamins A and C in fruits and vegetables help protect the mucous membrane and heal wounds. They should not be excessively restricted in order to maintain a balanced nutrition. 2. Reflux esophagitis The contents of the stomach flow back into the esophagus, causing inflammation and ulcers. The most common symptoms are chest burning, acid sensation, upper abdominal distension, pain in swallowing, and belching. For obese patients, moderate weight loss can help relieve the symptoms. Dietary recommendations: Eat low-fat, high-protein, fiber-rich foods, avoid greasy foods, tobacco, alcohol, mint, chocolate, coffee, carbonated drinks and spicy foods. Don't eat too much at one time. 3. Functional dyspepsia (non-ulcer dyspepsia) No abnormalities in organ structure or clear lesions can be found, and the symptoms are similar to those of the ulcerative type. In addition to personal constitution, it is also related to food, stress, and emotions. It may relapse after a period of relief, so it is very important to adjust your lifestyle habits. Dietary advice: Avoid greasy, spicy food and excessive seasoning, and focus on light food. Reduce the intake of foods that easily produce gas, such as beans, sweet potatoes, and taro (it varies from person to person); and foods that change gastrointestinal motility, such as chocolate, glutinous rice, and sweets; eat more vegetables and fruits. 4. Acute gastritis Extreme discomfort such as pain, nausea, vomiting, and fullness may occur due to great stress, irritating food, drugs, Helicobacter pylori infection, or other combined diseases. At this time, you should let your stomach rest for a short time without eating. Dietary advice: When symptoms are relieved and there is no nausea, you can start with a light diet, small meals, such as rice soup, porridge, peeled white bread, etc., and slowly return to normal. |
