How to tell if honey will go bad

Honey may go bad and has a shelf life. You need to judge whether it has gone bad by its texture, taste and bubbles.

1. Texture: Fresh honey looks thicker. If it is left for too long or is not stored correctly, it will start to deteriorate and contain a lot of water, so it looks thinner, like water.

2. Taste: Fresh honey has a fresh fragrance and tastes sweet. Spoiled honey is made through fermentation and may produce alcohol, which will smell like alcohol. If it continues to oxidize, it will form acetic acid, which will smell even worse and have a distinct sour taste.

Bubbles: There are very few bubbles in fresh honey, and they will disappear naturally. If the honey has deteriorated, carbon dioxide will be released during the fermentation process, so there will appear to be many bubbles in the honey, and the bottle may even bulge.

After purchasing, honey should be stored in a cool and ventilated environment and should be sealed so that it can be stored for a longer time. However, it should be consumed within the shelf life. It is suitable for children over three years old and adults, but not suitable for infants.

Honey contains water and nutrients such as glucose and fructose. It is made from nectar and bee secretions. It has the effect of beautifying and nourishing the skin, and can also promote gastrointestinal motility.
