How to remove musty smell from clothes

How to remove musty smell from clothes

The musty smell is a result of a humid environment. This kind of bacteria can cause irregular shapes and even be quite harmful. Sometimes it can cause some damage to clothes, such as the appearance of some moldy spots, red or white dots on clothes. This will make the clothes look ugly and even impossible to wash off, so you have to remove the musty smell from the clothes. You can try these methods.

How to remove moldy smell from clothes

Mildew and mildew are one of the most common results of damp conditions. This fungus can cause irregularly shaped stains. Its surface color ranges from gray to black, but sometimes it can also range from yellow to red. It has a musty odor and sometimes causes fabric degradation. Plant Fiber

or protein fibers are most likely to produce mold stains.

Mildew stains are difficult to remove. The most effective method is to soak and wet wash the clothes in aerobic laundry detergent particles. Aerobic washing is a type of laundry detergent that can inactivate mold and remove the musty odor. It can greatly reduce the mold stains on fibers or greatly dilute their color. It is important to use different bleaches for different fiber types and to perform color fastness tests before any treatment.

If the dye does not resist any oxygen bleaching, then test the colorfastness with ammonia or detergent, as this may improve the condition of the garment.

Moisture and lack of ventilation or sunlight will accelerate the growth of mold, so clothes placed in plastic bags should be disposed of immediately to prevent mold growth.

Especially during the rainy season, when the air temperature is high, clothes are prone to mold and hair growth. When mold in the air encounters suitable conditions, it will grow on the medium. Mold has strong vitality. It will grow and reproduce when the temperature is between 25℃ and 30℃, the humidity is above 80%, and there is sufficient oxygen.

What to do when clothes are moldy?

First, take the clothes out of the box and hang them in a ventilated and dry place. If conditions permit, you can use an electric iron to iron the clothes to reduce moisture. Hang clothes at certain intervals to ensure good ventilation. This is the reason why many clothes hanging in clothing stores do not get moldy.

Clothes may get moldy and grow white hair because the collar, cuffs, pocket openings and front of the clothes are not cleaned before storage, which creates conditions for bacteria to multiply. If you encounter such a situation, you should use clean water with a little aerobic washing, brush off the hair with a brush, then iron it dry and hang it up to prevent hair from growing again.

After treating the moldy clothes, you need to wait until the weather is clear before taking them outside to dry in the sun. Generally, wool fabrics and fur clothing can be dried in the sun. Fur clothing should be dried with the fur facing outwards for three or four hours, and then shake off the dust after it is cool in the shade. Silk clothing should not be exposed to the sun and should be blow-dried in a cool place to avoid aging of the fabric.

After drying clothes, store them properly. When storing clothes, you can put some mothballs and camphor blocks in the box. At the same time, it is best to store various types of clothing such as silk, fur, woolen materials, etc. separately.

During the rainy season, washed clothes are difficult to dry and often have an unpleasant musty smell. If you wash the clothes again in water with a small amount of vinegar and milk, you can remove the musty smell. If there are yellow spots on the clothes or bed sheets you have collected, apply some milk, put them in the sun for a few hours, and then wash them again using an aerobic washing machine in the usual way.

The adverse effects of mold on clothing and human body

Generally speaking, the adverse effects of microorganisms on the human body and clothing are as follows:

(1) Discoloration of fiber materials.

(2) The fiber material becomes brittle and decomposes, reducing its strength.

(3) Susceptible to infectious diseases (tinea tinea, tinea pedis).

(4) Infants are prone to dermatitis.

(5) The elderly are more susceptible to bedsores.
