Can alcohol be used to treat suppuration in wounds?

Physical injuries often occur in many occupations in life. Generally speaking, it is very common for people working on construction sites to suffer minor physical injuries, but some young people who love outdoor sports may also encounter such injuries. This kind of minor physical injury will not be a big problem as long as it is handled properly, but there are also some cases where it is not handled properly. So, can alcohol be used to treat festering wounds?

First, can alcohol be used to treat festering wounds? Alcohol is a commonly used skin disinfectant. Clinically, 70% or 75% alcohol has the greatest bactericidal power. However, due to its strong irritation, alcohol can only be used to disinfect the skin around wounds. It is not advisable to use alcohol directly to disinfect damaged tissues. It cannot be used to treat suppurative wounds. Regarding wound treatment, if the wound is not serious after an accidental injury, you can do the following treatment: For superficial wounds, such as small cuts and skin abrasions, you can use iodine (non-irritating) to directly disinfect the injured surface and surrounding skin, and then directly cover the wound with a Band-Aid.

Second, if you use alcohol, first disinfect the skin around the wound with alcohol, and then bandage the wound with a Band-Aid. Or it will be better to disinfect the skin around the wound with iodine first and then deiodine with alcohol. For slightly larger wounds, you should sprinkle some anti-inflammatory powder or Yunnan Baiyao on the wound after disinfection, cover the wound with sterile gauze, and bandage it with a bandage. Check the wound after three days. If there is no infection or suppuration, disinfect the skin around the wound with iodine and then bandage it. Contaminated wounds or wounds that have become infected and festered need to be carefully cleaned. They can be cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide, saline, etc., then disinfected with iodine and bandaged. For puncture wounds, rust wounds, etc., tetanus antitoxin should be administered in time to prevent infection. If there is bleeding in the wound, local pressure should be applied to stop the bleeding first. After the bleeding stops, disinfect and bandage it.

Can alcohol be used to treat festering wounds? Yes, but if the injury is serious, you still need to go to the hospital for treatment. It is also best to bandage the wound so that it heals faster, and try not to give yourself any medication. However, alcohol disinfection is not as effective when there is an inflammatory reaction. It is recommended to wash away all the secretions with saline, then disinfect with hydrogen peroxide, and finally disinfect with iodine tincture every 4-6 hours. It is better not to get it exposed to water. You can apply erythromycin ointment at night.
