What happens if a pencil lead pierces the skin?

Pencil is a very popular stationery and is often used in people's work and study. It can be said that it is an essential tool for people's growth. The materials used to make pencils are relatively simple. They are made by pressing various colored substances. However, pencil leads are generally sharp and can pierce the skin if you are not careful. Let's take a look at what will happen if the pencil lead pierces the skin?

Pencil lead is the product of graphite and clay fired at high temperature. The pencil lead itself is almost non-toxic to the human body. As for the small dot inside, it is actually the result of some graphite remaining under the skin, but it does almost no harm to the human body.

Initially, graphite was made into sticks and sold to merchants for use in marking packaging. Later, people mixed graphite powder with sulfur, antimony and rosin to make a paste. Then squeezed into strips, this is the prototype of the pencil. American craftsman Monroe puts a wooden cover on the pencil. He first made a machine that could cut out wooden strips, then carved fine grooves on the wooden strips, put the pencil leads into the grooves, and then align and glue two wooden strips together so that the lead was tightly embedded in the middle. This developed into the pencil we use today.

When your skin is pierced by a pencil lead, be sure to take some action and do not leave it alone. The first step is to use soapy water or a brush to remove the pencil lead that has pierced the skin as much as possible. This can avoid the formation of granulomas, repeated rupture and swelling, and the formation of skin marks in the future. If you cannot remove it yourself, you need to go to the hospital for timely treatment. The second step is to use iodine to disinfect the skin and cover the wound with a Band-Aid. After this treatment, there will generally be no lumps or marks on the skin.

If it is not treated in time and a lump appears in the skin, you will need to go to the hospital for surgery to remove the lump and avoid recurring granulomatous inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, heat and pain.

If there is no lump on the skin, but only some small black spots, this situation can be completely removed through laser treatment, and generally no scars will be left.
