What to do if you have tinnitus after radiotherapy

Although radiotherapy can effectively reduce the spread and number of cancer cells, it can also cause great harm to patients. Tinnitus after radiotherapy is a very common adverse reaction in patients after radiotherapy. Generally speaking, patients with nasopharyngeal cancer will experience tinnitus. So, after radiotherapy, is there any way to help patients reduce or relieve tinnitus?

Radiotherapy is a commonly used method for cancer treatment, but it does not necessarily mean that radiotherapy is beneficial and harmless to patients. A nasopharyngeal cancer patient developed tinnitus after radiotherapy. What should he do? Does he need to do anything?

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a malignant tumor with extremely uneven geographical distribution. 80% of the world's nasopharyngeal carcinoma occurs in China, with southern China being a high-incidence area. It is a malignant tumor that occurs in the nasopharyngeal mucosa.

Radiotherapy kills cancer cells by causing chromosome mutations to lose their normal functions, leading to the death of cancer cells, but radiotherapy can also cause the same death effect on normal cells. That's why this symptom occurs. However, there is currently no definite and effective method to treat tinnitus. Treatment should be targeted at the cause as much as possible. In addition, reducing anxiety, relaxing, and getting enough rest can have certain benefits for tinnitus. The following methods may also be of some help:

(1) Drugs: vasodilators, neurotrophic drugs, antianxiety drugs, antidepressants, carbamazepine-type anticonvulsants, lidocaine and tranquilizers, and traditional Chinese medicines such as Liuwei Dihuang Wan; (2) Masking treatment;

(3) Electrical stimulation therapy;

(4) Psychological treatment;

(5) Ear massage: Such as the traditional massage method of Ming Tian Gu: press the ears with both palms, place the thumbs behind the head, and tap the back of the head with four fingers.

Doing the above methods may have a certain good effect on tinnitus! In addition, after radiotherapy, you should also pay attention to your diet. The food should be easy to digest, fresh and delicious, and rich in nutrients such as protein, vitamins, and amino acids, such as kelp, seaweed, asparagus, jellyfish and other products.
