The most important thing in the dressing process is to ensure a sterile environment to avoid secondary infection to the patient. Patients usually use gauze to change the dressing, so what is the role of oil sand cloth?

Normal saline is generally used on mucous membranes that have rich blood supply, low chance of infection, and high sensitivity. The combination of glucose and insulin can stimulate the growth of granuloma tissue. Hypertonic saline inhibits bacterial reproduction, promotes granulation growth, and helps reduce edema.

Iodine tincture is a complex iodine, which is ineffective or has poor effect on oily wounds or areas with developed sebaceous glands. Alcohol or iodine can degrease, better fix bacterial proteins, and are more penetrating in areas rich in sebaceous glands. So it will be applied around the wounds on the scalp. However, the above two methods are somewhat irritating. Therefore, it cannot be used on open wounds.

The application of normal saline is mainly for flushing and humidification, because this may be a wide-area wound or a wound that is not smooth, and it is hoped that flushing can remove some impurities and infections.

Insulin is mainly used for non-healing wounds in diabetic patients. Local injection of gentamicin is mainly used for wounds that are already infected.

There is a science to knowing when to use alcohol and when to use Vaseline gauze. You must be familiar with the mechanisms of action of saline, alcohol, iodine, yellow gauze and vaseline gauze so that you can make appropriate choices when treating different wounds.

Choice of dressing. Some people like to use a lot of dressings, thinking that this will help maintain sterility; others use only a few layers, thinking that this will save costs. In fact, it is inappropriate to choose too many or too few dressings. How much dressing should be chosen? This has to start with the growth of the wound. In the first few days, the growth of the wound is mainly the growth of granulation tissue, which requires a relatively moist environment. Therefore, in the first few days, you can use several layers of dressings to keep the wound surface relatively moist. In the later stage, the growth of the wound is mainly the growth of keratin, and the wound surface needs a relatively dry environment at this time, so the dressing should be as thin as possible while still playing an isolation role. Why do some people’s wound stratum corneum not heal in the later stages? I think it has something to do with the above reason.
