How to distinguish male and female zebrafish

With the improvement of living standards and the solution to the problem of food and clothing, everyone has the leisure to grow flowers and raise fish. This not only beautifies the environment but also cultivates sentiment. I believe this is also an important reason why most people raise fish. Zebrafish is a type of fish that fish-raising friends are more familiar with. This is because it is a relatively easy to raise and popular fish. However, some friends have questions. Which of these fish is male and which is female? Let’s talk about how to distinguish male and female zebrafish.

It is not difficult to distinguish between male and female zebrafish: male zebrafish have a slender body, large fins, yellowish body color, brown-yellow anal fin, and obvious stripes; female fish have a fatter body, lighter body color, bluish, light yellow anal fin, and a noticeable belly swelling during the spawning period.

Zebrafish are small tropical fish that live in the upper layer and like to swim on the water surface. It is very easy to distinguish male and female zebrafish for some fish lovers who have been raising them for a long time. How to distinguish male and female zebrafish? It is easy to distinguish them by their body shape and other characteristics. Male zebrafish have slender bodies, large fins, and bright brown-yellow color with obvious stripes compared to female zebrafish; female zebrafish are obese and light yellow in color, and their abdomens swell especially during pregnancy. In general, they can be distinguished by body shape, body color, and the brightness of the stripes.

After identifying the male and female zebrafish, the female zebrafish, which has grown to about 4 cm in size, has basically entered the mature stage and can undergo in vitro fertilization and lay eggs. You can lay a layer of pebbles or other useful objects at the bottom of the breeding box in advance to prevent the mother zebrafish from swallowing the eggs after laying them.

Zebrafish are oviparous fish that reach sexual maturity at 4 months of age. It is generally better to breed with 5-month-old fish. The water required for breeding is pH 6.5-7.5, hardness 6-8, and water temperature 25-26 degrees Celsius. They like to lay eggs at the bottom of the aquarium. Zebrafish like to eat their own eggs most. Generally, 6-month-old parents can be selected. A layer of nylon mesh or some pebbles can be laid at the bottom of a 25 cm × 25 cm × 25 cm square tank. When breeding, the offspring will fall under the mesh or scatter in the gaps between the pebbles.
