Lipstick is a very common cosmetic. For many women, lipstick is an indispensable item when putting on makeup. Generally speaking, if the lipstick is of qualified quality, it will not be toxic and you can use it with complete confidence. But if the lipstick is of good quality, its ingredients may contain toxic substances such as petrolatum, pigments and dyes, triclosan and parabens, lead and heavy metals! 1. Petrolatum The oil is mostly petrolatum, which may cause dryness and cracking of the lip skin, and lanolin alcohol can cause damage to the body if it is contaminated with pesticides. 2. Pigment dyes It is generally composed of aluminum compounds and tar derivatives, which are absorbed by the body and stored in organs and fat. Some people who are sensitive to tar pigments may experience headaches, nausea, skin allergies, weakness, emotional instability and other problems. Tar pigments are also a cause of cancer. 3. Triclosan and parabens They are the two most commonly used preservatives in lipsticks. 20 minutes after the mice were injected with triclosan, their heart function decreased by 25% and their muscles became slightly paralyzed. Parabens are similar to female estrogen, which can cause menstrual cycle disorders. Long-term intake will increase the risk of breast cancer in women. But now many products keep it within national safety standards. 4. Lead Lead can be found in lipstick, especially red lipstick. This situation mostly comes from the raw materials themselves rather than artificial additions. If the small amount remains below the maximum limit allowed by national standards, it is considered safe. But in fact, the security of the so-called "national standards" is very limited. However, long-term use will also produce a cumulative effect and cause harm to the body. 5. Heavy Metals The darker the lipstick color, the higher the metal content. A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives by Professor Celine Hammond of the Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of California said that they analyzed 24 lip glosses and 8 brands of lipstick and found that in addition to the well-known aluminum, they also contained eight heavy metals: cadmium, cobalt, aluminum, titanium, manganese, chromium, copper and nickel. Aluminum, chromium and manganese have the highest content among all the metals detected. Their radiation period averages about 40 years, and they have a great impact on the kidneys. Over time, the brain and nerves will also be affected. What should be paid more attention to is that some low-quality lipsticks produced by underground factories are likely to contain a large amount of heavy metals (such as lead) to make their colors bright and colorful and not easy to fall off. If you swallow these "heavy metal lipsticks" frequently, the consequences will be even more disastrous. |
