How long does it take before I can walk after a broken ankle

As the saying goes, health is the capital of revolution, and physical health is more important than anything else. In our daily lives, although we pay more attention to every detail of ourselves, there are always times when we cannot avoid it. Fracture is a common orthopedic disease in clinical practice. Due to bone reasons, children and the elderly are generally more likely to suffer from various fractures than young and middle-aged people. Because bones heal and grow slowly, if a fracture occurs, it takes a long time to recover. So how long does it usually take before you can move again after a broken ankle?

How long does it take before I can walk after a broken ankle?

In general, fractures at the joints are more difficult to treat. In addition to bone damage, the soft tissues (cartilage, ligaments) within the joints will be damaged to some extent. Soft tissue injuries are much more difficult to treat than fractures. If not treated in time in the early stages or if good symptomatic medication is not available, it is generally difficult to heal on its own. If time is delayed for a long time, it will be more difficult to treat. Whether it is a fracture or soft tissue injury, the principle of treatment is to allow these damaged tissues to grow and repair quickly in a short period of time. The focus of treatment is not to fix it or rest at home, but to allow it to grow and heal quickly. It is recommended to use traditional Chinese medicine for bone setting. For fractures within one month in the early stage, symptomatic treatment with Chinese medicine can basically recover in about 30 to 40 days. Cartilage and ligament treatment can basically recover in about 40 to 50 days. Symptoms of pain, stiffness, and bending discomfort will naturally be eliminated. If soft tissue injuries exceed the time for too long, treatment will be more difficult, and recovery will be relatively not as good or faster than early treatment.

Generally speaking, fractures treated within one month can be basically cured in about 25 to 30 days, and soft tissue injuries can be basically cured in about 30 days. Treatment for long-term injuries needs to be extended.

Fracture precautions:

First, avoid smoking. Smoking seriously affects the healing of fractures and wounds.

Second, what to eat. Eat whatever you want. Because patients with fractures are bedridden, their appetite is poor. They cannot eat this, and eat that which is not good, which will lead to passive malnutrition. Traditional Chinese medicine says that "life comes from having stomach qi".

Third, you need to be careful when you have concurrent medical diseases, such as diabetes causing hypoglycemia, and monitor your blood sugar levels.

Fourth, do you need to drink bone soup and do you need to supplement calcium? In fact, for patients with fractures, the fracture ends will release calcium ions, serum calcium will increase, and the burden on the kidneys will increase, so in theory, there is no need for calcium supplementation. As for pathological fractures or late stages of fractures, appropriate calcium supplements can be taken. As for bone soup, as long as you have a good appetite, you can eat a moderate amount, but not large amounts.

Fifth, drink more water and practice defecating in bed. Patients with fractures sometimes have to stay in bed unavoidably. Many elderly people are afraid of pain and do not want to trouble their families, so they choose to eat less and drink less water to reduce the frequency of urination and defecation. Reducing intake is definitely not a good idea. Drinking less water can also lead to dry stools and difficulty in defecation. Reduced urination can increase the chance of urinary tract infection in the elderly while they are bedridden. Therefore, in addition to helping patients practice defecation in bed, encourage them to drink more water.

Sixth, first of all, you must keep the wound immobilized, do not move, and rest in bed; secondly, pay attention to regular dressing changes and take some antibiotics orally to avoid wound infection and poor wound healing; strengthen nutritional support, eat more nutritious foods, and you can also take some bone growth drugs, such as bone peptide tablets.

Seventh, raise the affected limb to brake, do appropriate functional exercises, and keep the area warm. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, meat, milk, eggs, dried shrimps, fish, shrimps, pork rib soup, etc. Do not eat spicy or overly sweet food, do not drink sugar water, fruit juice, carbonated drinks and other drinks, because the above drinks affect the formation of bone callus. Avoid smoking and drinking.
