Can a paternity test be done while the fetus is still in the womb?

Through the paternity test of the baby, we can effectively infer who the baby's biological father is. The paternity test is also a milestone in modern clinical practice. However, considering ethical factors, many people still choose not to do the paternity test. At the same time, some people are also considering whether it is possible to determine who the biological father of a fetus still in the mother's belly is through paternity testing?

Can a paternity test be done while the fetus is still in the womb?

As long as the pregnancy reaches 8 weeks, with a suitable sample from the male party, it is possible to accurately determine who the biological father of the child is. The details are as follows:

1. Amniotic fluid paternity test

Before the fetus is born, it lives in the amniotic fluid in the mother's womb, so the amniotic fluid contains a large amount of fetal substances. We only need to extract a little amniotic fluid to accurately determine who the biological father of the fetus is.

2. Chorionic villus paternity testing

Before the fetus is born, a layer of villi will grow on the surface of its body. We just need to gently scrape the villi sample from the fetus for testing, and then combine it with the father's sample to accurately determine whether there is a parent-child relationship between the fetus and the father.

3. Non-invasive paternity test

This is the approach taken by Ms. Zhang. Non-invasive paternity testing only requires collecting venous blood from the pregnant woman and does not cause any harm to the fetus. This also reduces the psychological burden of pregnant women. Compared with the first two paternity tests, it is undoubtedly the safest and most accurate method of paternity testing.

However, non-invasive paternity testing also has certain requirements. It does not mean that you can do it as long as you are pregnant. It can only be done if the pregnancy time reaches certain requirements, that is, the pregnancy time must be more than 8 weeks.

Not only that, because non-invasive paternity testing requires venous blood from the pregnant woman, the blood sample requirements are very high. People who have received allogeneic blood transfusion or bone marrow transplant within one year are not eligible. Because there is other people's blood in their blood, this will make the experiment very difficult.
