Is it better for children to use a fan or air conditioning?

In summer, the weather is very hot. Currently, the main methods of cooling down are fans and air conditioners. Most families in cities have air conditioners. In summer, everyone likes to stay in air-conditioned rooms, which makes them feel very cool. In addition, if there is no air conditioner at home, fans are the simplest and most effective cooling measure. So, should children use fans or air conditioners?

Is it better for children to use a fan or air conditioning?

If the temperature is not high, you just feel a little hot and sweat a little, you can turn on the fan to cool down. If the indoor temperature exceeds 32°C, using an electric fan will have little cooling effect.

Moreover, the temperature regulation center and circulatory system of infants and young children are not yet fully developed, so they sweat more than adults. The wind force of electric fans is relatively concentrated. When the baby sweats a lot, using an electric fan will cause the sweat in the parts that are blown to evaporate quickly, while the sweat will accumulate in the parts that are not blown, resulting in an imbalance in sweat excretion. In this case, infants and young children are extremely prone to getting sick or having prickly heat.

Therefore, if the indoor temperature exceeds 32℃, you should turn on the air conditioner to cool it down. Of course, you don’t have to be too serious about it. If you still can’t stop sweating even after turning on the fan, don’t bear it and just turn on the air conditioner! But it should be noted that the room temperature should be controlled between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius, and neither the fan nor the air conditioner should blow directly on the baby.

How to use fans and air conditioners correctly for babies?

Fan

Fan position: In addition to not blowing directly on the baby, you should also make sure that the fan is as far away from the baby as possible;

Fan direction: It is best not to blow in one direction, as this will easily lead to unbalanced sweat excretion for the baby. Therefore, when blowing the fan on the baby, use the left and right swing mode.

Wind speed: Try to use soft wind or sleep mode, and never use the maximum wind speed;

Situations where it is not suitable to use an electric fan: Do not let the baby directly use an electric fan when the baby is feeding, sleeping, changing clothes, or after outdoor sports.

Do not use electric fan after sweating: If your baby sweats, do not use electric fan immediately. Instead, wipe the sweat off before using the fan. This can prevent your baby from catching a cold.

air conditioner

Temperature setting: cannot be lower than 26℃. When you just come indoors from a high temperature outdoors, you should wait until your body temperature returns to normal before adjusting the air-conditioning temperature to 28°C. After the indoor temperature drops, adjust it to 26°C and control the room temperature between 26 and 28 degrees.

Air conditioning wind direction: Cold air sinks, so it is recommended to blow the air conditioning upwards to allow the cold air to circulate from top to bottom.

Usage time: Generally, it is more appropriate to turn on the air conditioner for about 3 hours. At this time, the baby and parents will not be so hot. After an hour, it is necessary to open the windows for ventilation for about 20 minutes to ensure air circulation.

Regular cleaning: Remove and clean the air conditioner filter every half a month. If the air conditioner is not cleaned regularly for a long time, the pathogenic bacteria in the air conditioner will cause the baby to have skin diseases such as dermatitis, eczema, and fungal infection, and may cause respiratory diseases such as asthma and rhinitis as well as some other symptoms.

Control humidity: The air conditioner will continuously absorb moisture in the room, and you will feel dry mouth and tongue if you stay in an air-conditioned room for a long time. Babies have delicate skin and are more likely to lose more water if they cry or get anxious. Therefore, when the indoor humidity is lower than 40%, a humidifier should be used to ensure that the indoor humidity is around 50%~60%. Note that the humidifier also needs to be cleaned regularly.
