Is a heart rate of over 50 normal?

The normal heart rate is 60-100 beats/minute. If the heart rate is around 50 beats per minute, it is considered bradycardia and it is recommended that you go to the hospital for a thorough examination. A normal heart rate should be around 60 to 100 beats per minute for a normal person in a quiet state, and 55 to 70 beats per minute is more ideal. For athletes or people who exercise for a long time, the heart rate will be slower than that of ordinary people, usually around 50 beats per minute. The speed of your heart rate is affected by age, gender, and other physiological factors.

Causes of bradycardia:

1. Physiological bradycardia: Some people will experience sinus bradycardia after doing strenuous exercise, which is called physiological bradycardia. Some people will even experience temporary bradycardia when sleeping or after being frightened. There is no need to be too scared. Once everyone's condition returns to normal, the heart rate will naturally return to normal.

2. Systemic diseases: Some people may also experience bradycardia after suffering from certain diseases. Diseases that can easily cause a slow heart rate include colds, typhoid fever, increased intracranial pressure, obstructive jaundice, abnormal thyroid function, acidosis, depression, etc. Therefore, the bradycardia caused by this situation can be restored to normal by curing these diseases.

3. Drug-induced bradycardia: There are some drugs in clinical practice that can cause your heart rate to slow down after use, such as lidocaine, beta-blockers, amiodarone, morphine, quinidine, etc. After using these drugs, you must strictly monitor your heart rate. If you find that your heart rate is too low, you must inform your doctor in time for treatment.

4. Cardiovascular disease: If our patients have cardiovascular disease, the heart rate may be too slow. This situation should be a very serious situation. The patient must treat the cardiovascular disease as soon as possible. After the disease is cured, the heart rate will return to normal.
