Feeling the urge to urinate but not peeing much

Feeling the urge to urinate but not peeing much

Some people don’t like to drink water normally, but suddenly find that they always want to go to the toilet to pee, and they only pee a little bit. I believe many people have experienced this symptom. The cause may be eating too much spicy food and causing getting a sore throat. But if this situation is ruled out, it may be caused by urinary tract infection or prostatitis. How to relieve and treat this uncomfortable symptom?

1. Concept

1. Urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection, also known as urinary tract infection, is an inflammatory response of the urothelium to bacterial invasion, usually accompanied by bacteriuria and pyuria. Urinary tract infection is divided into upper urinary tract infection and lower urinary tract infection according to the site of infection; urinary tract infection is more common in women.

2. Prostatitis

It refers to a prostate disease caused by a variety of complex reasons, with urethral irritation symptoms and chronic pelvic pain as the main clinical manifestations. Prostatitis is a common disease in urology, and ranks first among male patients under 50 years old in urology.

2. Symptoms

1. Urinary tract infection

Bladder irritation symptoms include frequent urination, urgent urination, painful urination, discomfort in the bladder area and a burning sensation in the urethra; the degree of frequent urination varies, and in severe cases, urge urinary incontinence may occur.

2. Prostatitis

Type I prostatitis often develops suddenly, with systemic symptoms such as chills, fever, fatigue, and pain in the perineum and suprapubic area. There may be symptoms of frequent urination, urgency, rectal irritation, and even acute urinary retention. The clinical symptoms of type II and type III prostatitis are similar, mostly including pain and abnormal urination.

3. Causes

1. Urinary tract infection

More than 95% are caused by a single bacterium. Among them, 90% of outpatients and about 50% of inpatients are infected with Escherichia coli. Although viral and mycoplasma infections are rare, they have been increasing in recent years.

2. Prostatitis

Frequent sexual intercourse, excessive masturbation, long periods of sitting, cycling, horseback riding, alcoholism, eating too much spicy food, catching a cold, etc. can all be triggering factors. The main pathogenic bacteria are Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

4. Inspection

1. Urinary tract infection

Imaging examinations include ultrasound, abdominal plain film, intravenous pyelography, etc. CT or MRI examinations can be selected if necessary.

2. Prostatitis

Digital rectal examination. Massaging the prostate gland can obtain prostatic fluid for laboratory testing.

5. Treatment

1. Urinary tract infection in non-pregnant women

The recommended treatment for acute simple cystitis is a three-day therapy. The recommended treatment for acute simple pyelonephritis is 14 days of antibiotic treatment. For patients with mild acute pyelonephritis, the course of treatment can be shortened to 7 days using high-efficiency antibiotics.

2. Male cystitis

Prostatitis should be excluded in all male patients with cystitis. For uncomplicated acute cystitis, the treatment course is 7 days; for complicated acute cystitis, patients need continuous treatment for 7 to 14 days.

3. Prostatitis

Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory; physical therapy; prostatitis massage and heat therapy; surgical treatment.

1. Prevention

Try not to eat too spicy food; insist on exercising; avoid sitting for long periods of time; change underwear frequently and wear breathable and comfortable pants; drink more water and eat more fruits. Spouses should also pay attention to personal hygiene.
