How to use a nasal rinser

The nasal washer is a relatively common gadget. Using the nasal washer to clean the nasal cavity is actually a habit that many friends have. Patients with rhinitis can actually use a nasal washer to improve the nasal environment, so as to avoid the onset of rhinitis as much as possible. The use of a nasal rinser is generally quite simple, and the liquid used is saline.

A nasal rinser is a tool used to clean the nasal cavity. It usually uses a certain pressure (or suction, or gravity, or mechanical pressure) to send saline solution into the nostrils, flowing through the nasal vestibule (the part exposed outside the head), sinuses, nasal passages, bypassing the nasopharynx, or being discharged from one nostril, or from the mouth. Through the above pathways, with the help of the bactericidal effect of saline solution itself and the impact force of water flow, the pathogens and pollutants that have accumulated in the nasal cavity are discharged, thereby restoring the nasal cavity to its normal physiological environment, restoring the nasal cavity's self-detoxification function, and achieving the purpose of protecting the nasal cavity. Nasal irrigators can be divided into simple bottle type, handheld air bag type and electric nasal irrigator water column type.

Applicable population: All people except children under 3 years old or other special patients such as those who are unconscious. It can be used by normal adults, children over 3 years old, pregnant women, or patients with acute or chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, adenoids hypertrophy, etc. Children under 3 years old can also try to use it (it is recommended to replace the syringe tube with 1 or 2ml), but caution is required and it is recommended that an ENT doctor provide guidance.

Directions:

Connect the nasal irrigation device and the syringe tube, place the nasal irrigation device head into the prepared saline solution, draw back the syringe, draw the saline solution into the syringe tube, and expel the air in the tube. Place the nasal irrigation device head into one nasal cavity, hold it with your left hand, and push the syringe with your right hand to allow the water in the syringe tube to rush into the nasal cavity through the nasal irrigation device head. The saline solution will flow out from the other nasal cavity or be spit out from the mouth, and the nasal irrigation is completed in one go. After cleaning the nasal irrigation device head, put it into the saline solution again to absorb the saline solution and prepare to rinse the nasal cavity for the second time. Rinse each nasal cavity 2-3 times, then switch to the other nasal cavity and rinse 2-3 times.

Note:

1. When you wash your nose for the first time, rinse it slowly. You can speed up after you get used to it.

2. When there is a lot of purulent nasal discharge, wash it more often, 3-4 times a day. When there is less purulent nasal discharge, wash it once every 2-3 days. When flushing, the nose cleaning tip can be moved up and down slightly to flush different parts of the nasal cavity. No activity is required on the right.

Preparation of nasal wash saline: The water used for nasal wash is best made by adding purified boiling water and purified cold water to a saline solution at about 35°C. The water temperature should be lower rather than too high. Children can adjust the water temperature appropriately according to their feelings, which can be slightly lower than 35℃. Therefore, when adjusting the water temperature, you should try it several times and ask your child about his or her comfort level. You can start flushing only when you think the temperature is about right. After trying a few times, you will be able to fix the amount of boiling water and cold water you add, and the temperature will be just right after mixing. You can use a thermometer to measure the approximate water temperature. When you first start washing your nose, it is recommended to use 0.9% saline solution, that is, 500ml of pure water plus a packet of nasal wash salt (4.5g). Then gradually increase the concentration to 2%~3%, the effect will be better. This is the latest international medical information in 2015. When 1 packet of nasal wash salt is added to 500ml of pure water, the concentration is 0.9%, 1.5 packets is 1.3%, 2 packets is 1.8%, 2.5 packets is 2.2%, and 3 packets is 2.7%. The concentration is controlled according to personal feeling.

Of course, don't worry about your child swallowing the dirty water when flushing, because we all know that many substances such as saliva flow into the stomach for digestion. Be sure to eliminate the child's nervousness and allow him to breathe naturally and smoothly so that the child can rinse his nasal cavity well. Of course, he will enjoy the process very much. After rinsing, he will feel that his nose is much cleaner and more comfortable than before rinsing, and his mood will also improve.
