What is the function of benzoyl peroxide gel

What is the function of benzoyl peroxide gel

Many people do not know what benzoyl peroxide gel is. In fact, it is a drug that is effective in treating and solving common acne and other problems. It also has good bactericidal ability and can reduce the damage caused by blackheads and acne to the skin. However, it should be noted that benzoyl peroxide gel can only be used externally, so avoid touching the eyes or lips.

1. Introduction

A medicine, an external benzoyl peroxide aqueous gel for treating common acne. Benzoyl peroxide is an oxidant with a bactericidal effect and belongs to the keratolytic agent class. The main ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, with concentrations of 2.5%, 5% and 10% respectively. The gel matrix is composed of docusate sodium, edetate disodium, carbomer 940, silicon dioxide, propylene glycol, paroxam 182, sodium hydroxide and purified water, and the pH value is adjusted with citric acid.

2. Main Ingredients

The main ingredients of BENZIHEX AC2.5, BENZIHEX AC5 and BENZIHEX AC10 are benzoyl peroxide, with concentrations of 2.5%, 5% and 10% respectively. The gel matrix is composed of docusate sodium, edetate disodium, carbomer 940, silicon dioxide, propylene glycol, paroxam 182, sodium hydroxide and purified water, and the pH value is adjusted with citric acid.

3. Clinical Pharmacology

The mechanism of action of benzoyl peroxide is not fully understood, but it is believed to be mainly due to its bactericidal ability against Propionibacterium acnes. Additionally, patients treated with benzoyl peroxide demonstrated a decrease in lipids and free fatty acids and a mild desquamative (drying and flaking) effect, along with a reduction in comedones and acne lesions. Although it is known that benzoyl peroxide is metabolized to benzoic acid after skin absorption and then excreted in the urine as benzoate, little is known about the percutaneous absorption, metabolism, and excretion of benzoyl peroxide. There are no reports of systemic toxicity caused by benzoyl peroxide.
