Pig kidney face profile

There are several types of face shapes, including round face, square face, and oval face. There is also a more popular term now, called ordinary face and celebrity face. In this society where appearance is everything, having a good-looking face shape is particularly important. Many people go for plastic surgery for the sake of beauty, just to be more confident. Some people have special faces with a sunken middle. This face shape is called a pig kidney face.

The characteristic of pig kidneys is that there is a concave area on the face, which is what plastic surgeons call "mid-face depression".

According to the description of "face shape and facial beauty" in "Basics of Cosmetic Medicine", the textbook for the qualification examination for cosmetic physicians, a person's "bone structure" is actually divided into different types.

The four face shapes are defined by the line between the brow point and the chin point (dashed line in the above picture):

1. If the subnasal point is on this line, it is a straight face type with the most harmonious proportions;

2. If the subnasal point is on the left side of the line, it is a slightly convex type, and the proportions are relatively harmonious;

3. If the subnasal point is on the left side of the line and farther away, it is a convex face, and the mouth is generally more convex;

4 If the point under the nose is on the right side of the line, it is a concave face and looks like a moon face, which is what Uncle Benshan calls a pig kidney face.

Due to their racial background, many Chinese people have flat or even sunken middle faces. Some people have protruding foreheads and chins, but sunken middle faces, which makes their noses look like they are growing in a basin. Compared with people whose noses grow on a "hillside", the three-dimensional sense of their facial features is much less.

From an aesthetic point of view, a long face is more acceptable than a sunken face. If it doesn't look good, consider whether it is due to the base of the nose.

What is the nose base?

The nasal base can be roughly defined as the base part where the lower end of the nose connects to the upper lip. From the perspective of orthognathic surgery, it is actually the bony part extending to both sides with the anterior nasal ridge as the center.

The height of the nose base determines the height of the entire nose. Taking architecture as an example, buildings of the same height built on sites at different altitudes will have different visual heights. A nose base of moderate height can make the entire face look fuller from the front and more three-dimensional from the side; if the bone tissue of the nose base is sunken, it will give people the feeling that the nose wings and nose tip are sunken into the inside of the face, and the face looks relatively flat.

How to correct the sunken nose base

Many people want to improve their mouth and chin or fill their nasolabial folds with injections because they feel their mouth is protruding and their nasolabial grooves are deep. But in fact, some people with protruding mouths and obvious nasolabial folds have a sunken mid-face (sunken nose base). The results of barely augmenting the chin, filling the nasolabial folds, or simply reshaping the nose are not very good. To deal with the depression in the middle part of the face, a nose base filling surgery is needed to achieve a satisfactory effect.
