How to identify black impurities in beeswax

How to identify black impurities in beeswax

Many times, the beeswax sold on the market actually contains many impurities, and they are usually black impurities with some black spots, so we should pay attention to the correct distinction. As for identifying the authenticity of these beeswax, in addition to finding out through magazines, we also need to look at its cracks or mineral traces. The following is an introduction to how to identify impurities in beeswax.

1. Impurities

The impurities in amber and beeswax can be divided into many categories. Since it is a resin fossil, any non-resin objects that are wrapped in it during the formation process can be called impurities. However, insect amber, plant amber, flower amber, water gall amber and root amber are more valuable because of the presence of inclusions. Therefore, impurities that can become defects are some black spots, or worthless soil, plant debris, animal remains, etc. that are wrapped inside. When their presence seriously affects the appearance of amber and beeswax, you should carefully consider whether to buy it.

2. Crack

There are often some cracks on the surface or inside of amber wax, some of which are naturally formed, and some are caused by human factors during the mining and processing process. Cracks not only affect the appearance of amber and beeswax, but many cracks also affect the structural strength of amber and beeswax, making it fragile and difficult to carry out secondary processing. Therefore, it has a significant impact on the value of amber and beeswax. If there are cracks in the finished product, you must not buy it, because such amber and beeswax can easily break during wearing.

3. Mineral traces

There will be some uneven spots on the surface of natural amber, such as pits or depressions, which are mine pits. There may also be red plates, linear red lines, etc. on the surface, which are mineral traces formed by the mineral skin on the surface of the amber. Some mineral traces can be concealed through clever processing, but some cannot be concealed. What do you think about the mines of amber and beeswax? If you are playing with the raw stones, it is completely acceptable if they are not particularly large and affect your playing with them. However, if the finished product still has pits, you have to choose carefully, mainly to see whether it affects the appearance. If it is a carving, there is generally no big problem, but if there are pits on plain items such as beads and plaques, it is better not to buy them.
