What are the symptoms of skin anthrax

Cutaneous anthrax is named so because black lesions appear on the skin of infected patients. People who frequently come into contact with fur, meat or livestock are the main victims of the disease. Once cutaneous anthrax is discovered, the patient will be isolated and treated because cutaneous anthrax is a highly contagious disease, but it is not incurable.

symptom

  1. Most commonly occurs in exposed areas, especially the face, neck, hands or forearms, and is usually single.

The incubation period is 2 to 3 days, with small red papules or blisters appearing initially ;

  After 1 to 2 days, it turns into purple-red blood blisters or pustules, with obvious redness and swelling around them and a dark red gangrenous base, but there is no pain, only slight itching.

The scab will peel off in 1 to 2 weeks, leaving a scar after healing. Severe cases may include high fever, vomiting, general malaise and systemic poisoning. Severe poisoning can lead to sepsis and meningitis, and death within a few days. There may also be lymphangitis and lymphadenitis. When it appears in loose skin areas such as the eyelids and neck, there is only diffuse edema but no blisters, and necrosis can form quickly.

Dietary principles for skin anthrax

The patients have a large amount of fluid exuding from their wounds, and patients with severe anthrax are unable to eat, resulting in a large loss of protein. When using antibiotics, supplement the patient with amino acids and albumin. After the condition improves, eat high-protein, easily digestible soft food to replenish lost protein and increase the patient's resistance. People who are unable to eat can be fed a high-protein, easily digestible liquid diet through the nasogastric tube.

General care for skin diseases

1. Isolate and treat patients who are the source of infection. The body should be cremated, bedding, secretions, feces, and dressings used by the patient should be strictly disinfected and burned. Suspected sick livestock or animals must be treated equally. It cannot be eaten or peeled.

2. Cut off the transmission route and disinfect the suspected contaminated fur raw materials. The purchase, transportation, slaughter and processing of livestock must be subject to veterinary quarantine. Strengthen supervision of food and drinking water to prevent water pollution.

3. To protect susceptible populations, workers engaged in animal husbandry, livestock product purchasing, processing, slaughtering, veterinary medicine and people in epidemic areas should be vaccinated with live attenuated anthrax bacteria vaccine once a year. Drug prevention can be used by those who have close contact with patients.
