What are the hazards of electronic pulses

Electron pulses, also called electromagnetic pulses, are produced by nuclear explosions and non-nuclear electromagnetic pulse bomb explosions. Currently, electrotherapy is used, mainly a combination of acupuncture and electronic pulses for treatment, or directly fixing electronic pulses on the required skin acupuncture points for treatment. It is not recommended for use by pregnant women, children, the elderly, or those containing metal. The main hazards are that excessive current may cause skin burns and other problems.

Electromagnetic pulses are produced by nuclear explosions and non-nuclear electromagnetic pulse bombs (high-power microwave bombs). The electromagnetic pulse produced by a nuclear explosion is called a nuclear electromagnetic pulse. Any nuclear weapon exploded above the ground will produce an electromagnetic pulse with an energy of about one millionth of the total energy of the nuclear explosion and a frequency ranging from a few hundred hertz to several megahertz. Non-nuclear electromagnetic pulse bombs use the energy generated by the explosion of explosives or the combustion of chemical fuels, which is converted into high-power microwave radiation energy through microwave devices. They can emit pulsed microwave beams with a peak power of more than GW and a frequency of 1 GHz to 300 GHz, which can sharply generate transient voltages of thousands of volts on exposed conductors (such as exposed wires and printed circuit board traces), causing irreparable damage to a large number of electronic equipment.

The electronic pulse protection method is basically the same as the lightning protection method. A shield made of 9.5 mm thick steel plate or 4 mm thick copper plate can provide high overall shielding effectiveness. However, this shielding is weakened by the presence of access doors and small holes for cables, connectors, switches, etc., which necessitate sealing the apertures with gaskets. If holes must be opened for ventilation, various shielding grids (such as honeycomb partitions, porous metal plates and wire mesh screens) should be used to divide the large holes into many small holes. The intersections between the holes must be fused to ensure the best shielding effect.

Cables must use integral protective materials. The best cable protective materials are conductive solid materials such as pipes. Proper grounding is also important in helping to reduce vulnerability. If the data transmission rate is low, filtering methods can be used to suppress transient effects. If filtering alone is not sufficient to reduce the electromagnetic pulse to safe levels, protective suppressors such as Zener diodes must be used. At present, the specific methods for foreign command and communication systems to protect against electromagnetic pulses mainly include: selecting the best components; using components that are not easily affected by electromagnetic pulses, such as electron tubes; installing filters on connectors; using external protective components to protect pre-packaged circuits (such as integrated circuits); using lead protection devices; using separation filters to limit the coupling frequency to a very narrow frequency band; using automatic gain control and gain limiting technology; using special filters; using circuit isolation technology to isolate electrical transients; shielding and grounding; redesigning subsystems; detecting data errors caused by electromagnetic pulse interference and rejecting these data.
