Are there any side effects of sodium hyaluronate injection on the knee?

It is common for people to experience skin aging as they get older, but bone failure will have an impact on the human body. For many elderly people, the older they are, the slower they walk. This is precisely due to bone aging. So in order to maintain bone health, many elderly people will inject hyaluronic acid into their knees. However, sodium hyaluronate can also have side effects and adverse effects, which need to be carefully understood.

What is Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium hyaluronate, also known as sodium hyaluronate, may not be known to your friends, but if you ask young and beautiful ladies, they will almost always know what it is.

At present, sodium hyaluronate is widely used in skin care products and cosmetics, and is recognized as the product with the most ideal moisturizing effect. Its hyaluronic acid molecules can carry 500 times more water and have outstanding moisturizing ability. It is the best moisturizing substance discovered in nature and is known as the ideal natural moisturizing factor.

But in addition to its moisturizing effect, its unique molecular structure and physical and chemical properties give it a variety of important physiological functions, such as lubricating joints, regulating the permeability of blood vessel walls, regulating proteins, and promoting wound healing. Coincidentally, the main component of the fluid secreted by our knee joints is sodium hyaluronate. The presence of sodium hyaluronate in synovial fluid can reduce the impact on bones during walking and exercise, reduce friction between bones, and play a lubricating role. In addition, polyglycolic acid, which is composed of sodium hyaluronate and proteoglycans, is the main component of the cartilage matrix.

How it treats arthritis

In fact, there are many reasons for joint pain, one of the important reasons being the reduction of synovial fluid in the joints and changes in its composition, which in turn aggravates the friction on the joint surfaces. When joint pain occurs, injecting sodium hyaluronate into the joint can restore the synovial fluid under pathological conditions to its normal state, and then continue to serve as a barrier and protective function for the joint, thereby achieving the purpose of lubricating the joint again.

In other words, the viscoelasticity of the synovial fluid decreases and the amount becomes less, resulting in a reduction in its barrier and protective functions, which in turn accelerates the wear of the joint surface, destroys the cartilage, irritates the local tissue and causes inflammation, releasing inflammatory factors, which further reduce the viscoelasticity of the synovial fluid.

If this vicious cycle is not broken, joint disease will continue to worsen. At this time, we inject sodium hyaluronate into the knee joint cavity to improve the lubricating function of the mucus, create a time window for natural repair of the knee joint, and allow the injured cartilage to repair and heal naturally.

In medicine, intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate has a history of more than 20 years and has been widely used around the world. The reason why it is so widely used is that in addition to its good effects, one of its biggest advantages is that it has no obvious side effects. At present, the most commonly used brand is Alji produced in Japan. It is injected with local anesthetics once a week, one injection each time, and it needs to be injected continuously for 5 weeks. The number of injections can be appropriately increased or decreased according to the severity of the symptoms. A small number of patients may experience local swelling and pain after the injection, but these symptoms will generally disappear within 2 to 3 days after the injection. If the knee pain is not severe, it should not be injected together with hormone products to avoid degeneration and damage to soft tissue structures such as ligaments.
