How to treat lumbar disc herniation compressing the leg nerves?

Lumbar disc herniation is a very common disease. Many people are suffering from this disease now, especially the middle-aged and elderly people. The most obvious symptom of patients with lumbar disc herniation is low back pain, which will affect their daily activities. If the lumbar disc herniation compresses the nerves of the legs, leg pain will also occur. It must be treated in time, otherwise it will cause great harm to the patient's health.

1. Oral drug treatment: Many patients with lumbar disease in life will use drugs to relieve the pain of the disease. Oral medications are absorbed, digested, and decomposed by the gastrointestinal tract, and then circulate through the blood before they can be delivered to the local area. The entire process requires passing through layers of barriers to reach the lesion site, but by then the efficacy of the medication has been reduced, so the effect is extremely slow and inefficient. Moreover, the clinical application of these methods can only relieve pain symptoms, functional rehabilitation is irreversible, and bone repair is out of the question. Moreover, oral medications can cause great damage to the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract.

2. Traction: This is a commonly used treatment method for patients with early lumbar spondylosis. Its principle is mainly the mutual balance of traction force and counter-traction force, so that the head and neck are relatively fixed in the physiological curve state, thereby gradually changing the phenomenon of abnormal cervical curve. However, its efficacy is limited and it is only suitable for patients with mild symptoms. Traction is prohibited in the acute stage to prevent local inflammation and edema from worsening. Activities are restricted during the traction period.

3. Physiotherapy: This is the abbreviation of physical therapy, which usually uses physical factors from nature or artificially created physical factors, such as sound, light, electricity, heat, magnetism, etc. to act on the human body to achieve the purpose of treating and preventing diseases. But its effect is also relatively weak and cannot provide a fundamental treatment. Frequent physical therapy can easily cause burns to the skin and even lead to cancer.

4. Massage: Massage is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine. There is no need for medication or injections during treatment. The massage doctor only needs to use his hands and simple instruments to apply different techniques to certain parts of the body or acupoints along the meridians and the direction of the flow of qi and blood to achieve the treatment goal. However, massage is prohibited during the acute phase or acute attack period, otherwise it will aggravate the inflammation and edema of the nerve roots and intensify the pain. Cervical spondylosis is accompanied by fractures, bone and joint structure disorders, osteoarthritis, severe senile osteoporosis, etc. Massage can destroy bones and spread infection, so this therapy should be prohibited.

5. Surgical method: The principle of surgical method is mainly to relieve pressure, eliminate stimulation, increase stability and prevent progressive damage. However, surgical treatment is not suitable for patients with more surgical complications and contraindications, high risk, great pain, or systemic or local conditions that are not suitable for surgery, such as those who are older, in poor health, have cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases or diabetes, or have contraindications to anesthesia.
