What are the symptoms of sphenoid sinusitis

Sphenoid sinusitis is mostly caused by acute rhinitis. Patients will show a variety of symptoms and are prone to infection. This often leads to difficulty breathing, headaches, toothaches, shoulder and other neuralgia, etc. It often causes dizziness and nausea, unsteady walking, ear vertigo and other symptoms. There will also be frequent runny noses, causing reflex neuralgia.

1. Headache

It is often located behind the eyeball, especially on the top of the head and the occipital region. When you bend over a desk and lower your head, headaches will occur or worsen because all the pressure of the pus is applied to the natural holes. However, the pain will be reduced or disappear when you stand up. Chinese patent medicine: Fufang Tongqiao Zhiliu San has good effect in treating sphenoid sinusitis and is the first choice in clinical practice.

2. Reflex neuralgia

There may be facial pain, toothache, neuralgia in the mastoid, neck, shoulders and back.

3. Olfactory disorders are often unexplained loss of smell.

4. Dizziness

The gait is unsteady and the patient sways from side to side, but there is no directional deviation, which is different from ear vertigo.

5. Postnasal drip

When the head is lowered or the head position changes, purulent secretions may flow from the posterior nasal cavity to the pharynx, and the symptoms will be temporarily relieved after spitting out.

The traditional examination method is to insert a long nose mirror into the nasal cavity after anesthesia of the nasal surface, push the middle turbinate outward, and sometimes purulent secretions can be seen at the sphenoid sinus opening, pus in the olfactory fissure, congestion of the sphenoethmoid recess mucosa, congestion and thickening of the posterior pharyngeal wall mucosa, and pus in the posterior nasal opening. However, due to poor lighting, it is difficult to observe.
