What is dry eczema?

Dry eczema, also known as sebaceous eczema, refers to the fact that the body has too little oil in the skin, which often leads to wrinkles and dehydration of the skin, making the skin appear particularly dry. For patients, it is first necessary to understand the cause and see what causes it, and then carry out good treatment in time. In daily life, you should pay attention to moisturizing the skin and use some moisturizing cosmetics.

1. Cause

It is mainly related to skin moisture loss, reduced sebum secretion or dysfunction. Seen in patients with ichthyosis or the elderly. Excessive bathing, use of strong alkaline soaps, facial cleansers or bathing in water that is too hot can also cause artificial skin degreasing.

2. Clinical manifestations

This disease is more common in winter and is more likely to occur in the elderly and those who bathe excessively. It often occurs on the extensor side of the calf and hands.

Those caused by reduced sebaceous gland function usually develop slowly. Itching usually starts after bathing at around age 50 and gradually worsens with age. Many cases of acute dermatitis caused by excessive washing or the use of degreasers are actually irritant contact dermatitis. This disease can also be seen in cancer patients, those using diuretics or type II histamine blockers, and those infected with HIV.

3. Treatment

First eliminate the cause. Treat with an emollient. For example, white vaseline, vitamin E cream, mineral oil, etc. Can be used 1 to 2 times daily. Use body oil right after bathing. To keep the moisture in the skin from evaporating. Since the skin barrier function has been significantly damaged, it is best not to use topical corticosteroid preparations.
