What should I do if my ears are itchy and painful?

Why do ears itch and hurt? The most common causes are getting angry and external otitis. We should pay special attention to external otitis. In severe cases, the pain caused is severe, especially when eating, so it should be treated in time.

1. When the external auditory canal is severe, the pain is severe, which worsens when chewing with the mouth open, and may radiate to the same side of the head. The patient may feel generally unwell and the temperature may rise slightly. When the swelling severely blocks the external auditory canal, tinnitus and decreased suction may occur. Examination revealed traction pain in the auricle and tenderness in the tragus, and localized redness and swelling of the skin in the cartilaginous part of the external auditory canal. After the redness and swelling mature and ulcerate, the pus in the external auditory canal flows out of the ear, and the ear pain is relieved. This is one of the symptoms of otitis externa.

2. Chronic otitis externa is mainly characterized by ear discomfort and itching, often with a small amount of secretions, slight hearing loss, congestion or thickening of the skin of the external auditory canal, or covered with crusts, and a small amount of pus or debris. Sometimes, removing the scab may cause bleeding, and the tympanic membrane may become cloudy, thickened, and unclearly marked, or a small amount of granulation tissue may form on the surface due to damage to the tympanic membrane epithelium. This is a common symptom of otitis externa.

3. The external auditory canal experiences burning, itching, pain, diffuse congestion, swelling, and epidermal erosion. The secretions are first serous and then become serous or purulent. If the skin swelling is severe, it may cause stenosis or occlusion of the external auditory canal. These are symptoms that patients experience firsthand.

4. When external otitis is severe, it will block the tympanic membrane, causing conductive deafness and tinnitus. Because the secretion is non-stimulating, the intertragus notch or earlobe may also be affected. In severe cases, the lymph nodes around the ears are swollen and tender, and symptoms such as fever and discomfort may occur throughout the body.

What are the symptoms of otitis externa? This is our introduction to the symptoms of otitis externa. After patients discover these symptoms, they must seek treatment in a timely manner so that the disease can be treated more effectively. Here, I wish all patients a speedy recovery.
