What to do if your ears hurt?

If you experience ear discharge and pain, you should be alert to otitis media. The incidence rate is high among children, and the ear pain caused by otitis media is very severe. Tinnitus may also occur. It can be treated with medication, and parents should also take good care of their children.

1. Treatment of otitis media

1. Surgical treatment of otitis media:

The average duration of otitis media surgery is about 1.5 hours, which may increase or decrease depending on the difficulty. Including preparation, anesthesia and recovery, it takes about 2 to 3 hours. If it is a pearl tumor, it will take more time. The first step is to make an incision. The incision can be made through the skin in front of or behind the ear, depending on the size and location of the hole. Smaller holes can even be repaired directly without touching the outer ear. If you want to start from behind the ear, you need to shave your hair to three centimeters above the ear before the operation; if you want to start from in front of the ear, you only need to shave your sideburns to the upper edge of the ear shell. During surgery, the diseased tissue is removed under a microscope and then the eardrum is repaired. If there is an ossicular defect, it will be treated at the same time. Next, the external auditory canal is packed with soft glue, and then the wound is sutured, and the otitis media surgery is completed.

2. Drug treatment of otitis media:

Otitis media is an inflammatory disease that occurs at any age. This disease causes great harm to the patient's physical and mental health, and many patients want to recover as soon as possible. Since many people lack knowledge about medications for otitis media, they often don’t know how to use them. The simple type is mainly treated with local medication: antibiotic aqueous solution or a mixture of antibiotics and steroid hormones, such as 0.25% chloramphenicol solution, chloramphenicol cortisone solution, ofloxacin ear drops, and Congcong ear drops can be used to treat otitis media and otitis externa, prevent recurrence and achieve a cure.

2. Otitis media care

1. If there is pus in the child's ears, you should first clean his ear canal with 3% hydrogen peroxide, and then apply medicine. After the medicine is dripped on the child, he should lie on his side and wait for the medicine to penetrate into the tissue before getting up and moving around.

2. Before giving your child medicine drops, please note that the temperature of the medicine should be close to body temperature. If the medicine is too cold, it should be slightly warmed to prevent the child from experiencing adverse reactions such as nausea and vomiting after the medicine is dropped. In addition, the dropper should not touch the wall of the external auditory canal to avoid contamination.

3. Always keep your child's external auditory canal and the skin in front of the ear clean. If there is purulent secretion, clean it up in time.

4. Otitis media is caused by bacterial infection, so parents should choose sensitive antibiotics for their children under the guidance of a doctor. Generally, penicillin and penicillin family members are used. Do not use antibiotics blindly. The most commonly chosen route of administration is intravenous drip, which allows the drug to reach the lesion faster and take effect.
