How to treat rickets?

Rickets is a relatively common disease in daily life. It is mostly caused by malnutrition in children during infancy and is very serious for children's growth and development. So how to treat rickets? Most parents don't fully understand this. In fact, there are three ways to treat rickets. The first is to get more sun exposure to promote the synthesis of vitamin D.

1. Get more sun exposure to promote the synthesis of vitamin D: If a child suffers from rickets, the first thing to do is to let the child get more sun exposure. According to research, 1 square centimeter of skin exposed to sunlight for 3 hours can produce about 20 international units of vitamin D. Even if the baby is wrapped tightly in clothes, as long as the face is exposed to the sun for one hour a day, 400 international units of vitamin D can be produced. When basking in the sun, you should open the windows or go to the yard. In winter, let children get more sun. In addition, if mothers get more sun exposure during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it will be very beneficial for ensuring the supply of vitamin D for infants and young children and preventing and treating rickets.

2. Appropriately supplement vitamin D: Add foods rich in vitamin D to your diet, and take nutritional supplements of vitamin D as prescribed by your doctor. Depending on the child's condition, the course of treatment is about one month. Generally, calcium supplementation is needed in the early stages of treatment. Whether long-term calcium supplementation is needed is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Generally, calcium absorption will naturally increase with the supplementation of vitamin D. Premature babies should be given vitamin D in advance. Infants and young children should also supplement vitamin D in winter and spring. If a child has chronic diarrhea or other chronic diseases, intramuscular vitamin D should be given if necessary. Treatment of young infants with tetany requires emergency anticonvulsant therapy and calcium therapy followed by vitamin D supplementation.

There are two main sources of vitamin D for the human body. One is the conversion of vitamin D precursors in the skin into vitamin D through exposure to ultraviolet rays in sunlight. The other is intake from food. Animal foods contain vitamin D3, and plant foods contain vitamin D2. D2 and D3 are collectively referred to as vitamin D. Apart from marine fish and liver, the content of it in milk, egg yolk and meat is very small, and the content in vegetables is negligible.

3. Use drug treatment: The treatment of rickets also requires drug treatment. Currently, vitamin D tablets, capsules, injections, emulsions, etc. are used to treat rickets. In addition, vitamin D3 is absorbed faster than vitamin D2 and has better effects.
