Symptoms and treatment of otitis media and tympanic membrane perforation

Otitis media is very common in clinical practice and has a certain impact on people's hearing. Eardrum perforation is also related to otitis media. It is necessary to understand the symptoms and treatment of otitis media with tympanic membrane perforation. The patient will have obvious pain in the ear, which can be treated through surgical repair.

1. Otitis media causing tympanic membrane perforation is a relatively common phenomenon in life. When the middle ear is inflamed, a lot of secretions will accumulate in the ear, and the pus can only flow out from the very small middle ear cavity. If it is not treated in time and the pus cannot be discharged well, then the pus accumulated in the cavity above the tympanic membrane in the middle ear will cause pressure on the tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane is very thin, and it is easy to rupture and cause perforation under high pressure.

2. When otitis media causes perforation of the eardrum, the patient will first feel pain in the ear. When the eardrum is perforated, the pain will gradually subside, and fluid will flow out of the ear. Many children will have systemic symptoms before tympanic membrane perforation, such as fever, chills, fatigue, etc. Some children will also have symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.

3. Eardrum perforation should be treated early. If not treated in time, the perforation of the eardrum will affect hearing and cause conductive hearing impairment. Generally speaking, small holes do not hinder hearing, but the larger the hole, the more serious the hearing loss. Of course, it will not generally lead to complete deafness.

4. Perforation of the eardrum caused by otitis media will cause pus to flow out of the ear. Anti-inflammatory measures should be taken in time. If it is in the acute stage, oral antibiotics can be taken, and the ear canal can be flushed with some drugs, such as 0.3% ofloxacin ear drops. Be careful to avoid water entering the ear after taking the medicine. If the perforation is not very serious, alcohol cotton can be plugged in the ear canal to prevent infection. Take anti-inflammatory drugs appropriately. Generally, mild perforations can heal on their own.
