Why does the tongue have cracks? Causes of cracked tongue

If we observe our tongue carefully, some people will find irregular cracks on the surface of the tongue. This phenomenon is medically called fissured tongue. Cracks on the tongue indicate that our body is in a sub-healthy state. The surface of a healthy tongue should be white and thin, smooth and without cracks or cuts. So why does the tongue have cracks?

Immune system abnormalities

When the body's immune system is abnormal, some viruses or bacteria present inside the mouth will become particularly active, causing significant deterioration of fissured tongue lines. Most of these viruses are primary viruses. After humans are infected, they exist in the body, hide in the blood vessels under the epidermis, and reproduce in the cell nucleus. Common ones are Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, etc.

Excessive fatigue

Experts believe that modern people lead stressful lives and suffer from high mental stress, making fissured tongue a "disease of civilization" caused by their lifestyle. Clinical observations have found that many patients with fissured tongue develop the disease after excessive fatigue. Because physical fatigue and poor mental state can lead to an imbalance in the human body's internal environment, which can activate viruses lurking in the body and cause ulcers.

The impact of hormonal changes

Fissured tongue patterns are also believed to be related to genetic, hormonal and other factors. For example, fissured tongue patterns will worsen before menstruation, and there is an increase in cases in menopausal women, but the incidence rate is lower in pregnant women. These phenomena all show that the occurrence of fissured tongue patterns is affected by hormonal changes.
