What are the symptoms of pharyngitis

Pharyngitis affects many people, and the early symptoms of pharyngitis include dryness, burning sensation in the throat, pain and coughing. Some patients may also have fever, headache and loss of appetite, and these symptoms need to be used to confirm the diagnosis.

1. Symptoms of acute pharyngitis: dryness and burning sensation in the throat at the beginning. When the inflammation invades the throat, there will be coughing and hoarseness. Then there will be pain. The pain in the throat is often more obvious when swallowing saliva than when eating. The systemic symptoms are generally mild, but the degree varies due to age, immunity, and the virulence of viruses and bacteria. There may be fever, headache, loss of appetite, and sore limbs.

2. Symptoms of chronic pharyngitis: discomfort in the throat, dryness, itching, swelling, excessive secretions and burning pain, nausea, foreign body sensation, inability to cough out or swallow, especially after talking a lot, eating irritating food, feeling tired or when the weather changes; if you get a little cold, tired, talk a lot, or don't drink water for a long time, you will feel worse pain and burning in the throat, and the itchy throat will cause bouts of irritating coughing, affecting your rest.

3. Chronic simple laryngitis: The laryngeal mucosa is diffusely congested and swollen, the vocal cords lose their original pearly white color and become pink, the edges become blunt, and thick mucus can be seen on the surface of the mucosa, often forming mucus threads between the glottis.

4. Hypertrophic laryngitis: The laryngeal mucosa is thickened, especially in the interarytenoid area. The vocal cords are also thickened and cannot move toward the midline, resulting in poor closure. The ventricular bands are often thickened and cover part of the vocal cords. The aryepiglottic folds may also be thickened.

5. Atrophic laryngitis: The laryngeal mucosa becomes dry, thin and shiny. There are often yellow-green or dark brown dry scabs in the interarytenoid area and under the glottis. If the scabs are coughed out, a small amount of blood can be seen on the surface of the mucosa. The vocal cords become thinner and their tension is weakened.
