What are the symptoms of lower limb phlebitis

If you stand or work for a long time, the chance of developing lower limb phlebitis will greatly increase. When lower limb phlebitis occurs, there will be obvious symptoms in the legs, such as dark red skin color, swelling and pain, and itchy skin.

symptom

1. Thrombotic deep phlebitis of lower extremities:

Early symptoms include swelling of the affected limb, local skin redness, swelling, heat, and pain, which worsens after fatigue and eases after rest. As the disease progresses, nutritional disorders appear in the affected limbs, the skin becomes itchy, desquamated, black pigmentation occurs, and eczematous dermatitis occurs, which may be accompanied by varicose veins. In the later stage, skin ulcers that do not heal for a long time appear. Long-term ulcers can lead to skin cancer.

2. Migratory superficial phlebitis of lower extremities:

The initial symptoms are local skin redness, swelling, heat and pain, and subcutaneous nodules or cord-like objects can be felt, which are tender to the touch. After the inflammation subsides, the skin pigmentation becomes black. The disease may recur many times, with uncertain location and migratory nature.

From a clinical perspective, the symptoms of superficial phlebitis and deep phlebitis are different. In the former, the affected limb has local redness, swelling, and pain, which worsens when walking, and painful cord-like hard strips or beaded nodules can be felt. In the latter, the onset is sudden, the affected limb is sunken and swollen, the skin is dark red, there is extensive venous dilatation or varicose veins and capillary dilatation; in the later stage, nutritional changes appear, accompanied by stasis dermatitis, pigmentation or superficial ulcers, the circumference of the thigh and tibia is more than 1 cm thicker than that of the healthy limb, the swelling and pain worsen when walking, and are relieved after lying still, and venography can show stenosis or blockage of the deep veins of the affected limb.
