How to treat cold and dry cough?

Cold and dry cough is a common problem, especially during the influenza period, and more attention should be paid to prevention. If you want to effectively solve it, you should pay attention to your diet and drink plenty of water, because drinking water helps promote metabolism and improve these symptoms.

1. First of all, we need to distinguish the nature of the cough. Is it a dry cough or a wet cough? A dry cough is a dry cough, which means there is no sputum or very little sputum; in contrast, a wet cough is a wet cough, which is accompanied by a large amount of sputum. There are differences in the treatment of the two types of cough.

2. No matter what kind of cough you have, you need to drink plenty of water. Drinking water helps metabolism, especially in autumn when the climate is dry, drinking water can moisten the respiratory tract. But don't drink cold water or too hot water, as both will irritate the respiratory tract. Warm water is best.

3. The diet should be light. Fried, spicy and stimulating foods must be avoided. Although seafood such as fish and shrimp are high in protein, they will increase the production of phlegm. Onions, ginger and garlic are not allowed to be eaten.

4. Use cough medicine with caution. It was previously revealed on TV that a well-known brand of cough syrup contains codeine. Although this substance can calm and relieve coughs, it is also addictive and cannot be taken for a long time, otherwise it will be difficult to quit. Children, in particular, should never take it. Licorice tablets also have a cough suppressant effect, but they are also addictive. Therefore, although they are over-the-counter drugs, they must be used under the doctor's orders.

5. Cough cannot be stopped even if there is phlegm. Many people treat all coughs as dry coughs regardless of whether they are dry or wet, by taking cough suppressants. This is a very wrong approach. The purpose of coughing and expectoration is to remove bacteria and viruses from the respiratory tract. However, taking cough suppressants is equivalent to terminating this defensive behavior, and the sputum containing all kinds of garbage has to flow back into the respiratory tract. Then the person who takes the medicine will wonder why his cough never gets better. If there is phlegm, it must be eliminated. Wait until phlegm is basically no longer produced. If you still cough and this cough has seriously affected your normal life, it is recommended to take cough suppressants.
