Can you understand the process of orthodontic treatment?

Sometimes if the teeth are not beautiful, they can be corrected through surgery. Many people may not know much about orthodontics. In fact, it can be of great help to many people who have developed tooth deformities since childhood. Orthodontic treatment mainly achieves the correction effect by adjusting the balance between muscles, teeth and facial bones, but the orthodontic process is introduced below.

1. Consult a doctor

Develop a corrective plan. Inquiry (ceramic braces are transparent, and steel braces are divided into domestic and imported) and other related matters. It is best to consult with several hospitals and make comparisons. Generally speaking, regular hospitals have better quality assurance). If your financial conditions permit and you love beauty, you can choose transparent ones (transparent refers to the brackets that are glued to the teeth, but the steel wire on them can still be seen when you look closely).

2. Filming

Take X-rays of your teeth and skull bones. The purpose is to see the development direction of your teeth and bones, etc. This will help to develop accurate correction methods in the future.

3. Moulding

Use a quick-setting glue to put on your teeth, bite for 1-2 minutes and then take it out. It will become a model of your teeth. It is kept as a backup and is also convenient for future correction and comparison.

4. Take photos

The doctor will take photos of your teeth from various angles during correction for future reference and comparison.

5. Tooth extraction

According to the plan made by the doctor, the teeth are extracted in batches. The average person needs to have about 4 teeth extracted. Some special cases, such as those with many wisdom teeth or those with too dense teeth, may need to have about 8 teeth extracted.

6. Teeth separation

Some tooth separation is performed at the same time as tooth extraction, while others are performed after tooth extraction. A tooth separation ring is placed between the upper and lower molars, left and right. It usually takes about a week. The purpose is to create a little space between the teeth so that the steel ring that fixes the braces can be inserted when wearing braces. Generally speaking, teeth separation will feel a bit sore and weak, and it will be a bit painful when the upper and lower teeth touch each other!

7. Braces

After the teeth are separated, you can usually get braces directly.

8. Follow-up visit

Generally, follow-up visits are once a month. The doctor will discuss the specific time with you.

9. Rubber band

Generally speaking, the alignment of teeth will vary depending on the speed of tooth movement and the doctor's skills. Generally, some changes can be seen in about a month, and they will be basically aligned in about six months. After the teeth are aligned, the gaps between them and the gaps where the teeth were extracted need the help of rubber bands. The rubber band should be taken off when eating. It is said that the effect of rubber bands is very magical.

10. Adjust the shape and finalize the shape

When closing the gaps between teeth, you are also adjusting the midline. Once the gaps between teeth are closed, the midline will be basically symmetrical. If the midline is symmetrical, the face will be symmetrical, and it will look good when you smile! (Some people may have asymmetrical tooth loss, so the center line will not be completely straight, but as long as it is not very crooked, it will not affect the appearance.) But don’t rush to take off the braces at this time, the teeth need to be shaped for a while!

11. Remove braces

The most exciting moment has arrived! To make it more perfect, you can go for a teeth cleaning or whitening. Make yourself more confident and energetic.

12. Retainer

Don't think that you're done once you've taken off your braces. For us adults who are having our teeth fixed, we must pay more attention to maintaining the shape. Therefore, it is necessary to wear a retainer. Generally speaking, retainers are worn 24 hours a day for the first six months, and then only at night. (You can take it off when eating, but make sure to keep it clean) Don’t let all the suffering you have endured go to waste. If you don't insist on wearing a retainer, it will rebound, so remember to stick to the retainer!
