Sometimes your eyes feel itchy, but the itching is not in the eyeball, but mainly concentrated in the corners of the eyes or the base of the eyelids. Then you should consider whether you have itchy eye blepharitis. This type of inflammation often occurs in the corners of the eyes or eyelids, and in severe cases it can cause congestion in these areas. When blepharitis occurs and your eyes itch, you must use the correct method to treat it in order to recover. 1. Causes of itchy eyes and blepharitis Most of these patients have vigorous secretion of the eyelid sebaceous glands and meibomian glands, and Pityrosporum ovale can often be found in the affected areas, which can break down lipids into irritating fatty acids. Various physical and chemical stimuli (wind, dust, smoke, heat, etc.), reduced body resistance, malnutrition, lack of sleep, refractive errors, visual fatigue, long-term use of inferior cosmetics and unhygienic eyes are all causes of the disease. The eyelid margin is rich in glandular tissue and fatty secretions, and is easily contaminated by dirt and bacteria, causing infection. This type of eye disease generally has a long course and requires persistent medication. People with refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism), frequent use of mascara or poor hygiene habits are prone to blepharitis. 2. Symptoms of itchy eyes and blepharitis Patients mainly feel itching, stinging and burning sensations in the eyes. The eyelid margin is congested, and epithelial scales are attached to the eyelashes and the surface of the eyelid margin. There may be punctate sebum secretion on the surface of the eyelid margin, and the sebum gathers at the root of the eyelashes to form a yellow waxy secretion, which forms a scab after drying. After the scales and scabs are removed, the congested surface of the eyelid margin is exposed, but there are no ulcers or pus spots, and the eyelashes are easy to fall off. If the inflammation does not heal for a long time, the eyelid margin may become thick and the posterior lip may become blunt and round and unable to keep close contact with the eyeball. If accompanied by conjunctivitis, the lacrimal puncta may swell and turn outward, causing epiphora. 3. Treatment of itchy eyes and blepharitis Canthal blepharitis is caused by an infection with a bacterium called Bismuth avium and is usually treated with 0.5% zinc sulfate eye drops. If your eyes are itchy, I suggest you go to the hospital for a check-up first. Eat more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins A, C, and E; give your eyes adequate and proper rest, avoid using your eyes for long periods of time and excessive fatigue, and pay attention to the number of times you blink; pay attention to the cleanliness of your eyelids and eyelashes when washing your face, and use a hot towel for hot compresses to relieve fatigue and increase tear secretion, etc., which can prevent the occurrence of dry eyes. |
