What causes common warts? Learn it early

Common warts are also a type of warts and are a relatively common skin disease. Generally speaking, common warts are highly contagious and can be transmitted directly or indirectly. Understanding the origin of the disease can also help in self-protection.

One cause

Warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and can be transmitted through direct or indirect contact. Trauma or skin damage is also an important factor for HPV infection. The course of warts has an important relationship with the body's immunity. The mechanism by which warts persist for a long time in relatively healthy people is still unclear, but it may be related to local or systemic immune dysfunction or the development of immune tolerance.

2. Clinical manifestations

1. Initially, it is a needle-tip-sized papule, which gradually expands to the size of a pea or larger, and is round or polygonal in shape, with a rough surface, obvious keratinization, hard texture, and grayish yellow, dirty yellow or dirty brown in color. It continues to develop into papilloma-like proliferation, and is prone to bleeding due to friction or impact.

2. It is common on fingers, back of hands, edges of feet, etc.

3. The number varies, usually just one at first, and can grow to several to dozens later. Generally there are no subjective symptoms, but tenderness may occur occasionally.

4. It mostly occurs in adolescents, usually with no subjective symptoms and occasional tenderness. The course of the disease is chronic and some cases can heal themselves.

5. Plantar warts are common warts that occur on the soles of the feet. Due to local pressure and friction, a yellow callus forms on the surface. If this layer is scraped off with a knife, white soft thorn-like warts can be seen, and there are often small black spots scattered on the surface.

6. If it occurs at the edge of the nail, it manifests as simple keratosis, and typical wart-like lesions appear only when it invades the skin. If it spreads under the nail, it will lift the nail and disrupt its growth, leading to cracks, pain and secondary infection.

7. Signs before disappearance: sudden itching, redness and swelling at the base of the warts, sudden enlargement of the lesions, tendency to become unstable, or individual warts may disappear or small new warts may appear.

8. Special types: ① Filiform warts often occur on the eyelids, neck, chin, etc., and are mostly single, thin, soft, filamentous protrusions. ② Digital warts are a cluster of multiple uneven finger-like protrusions on the same soft base, with keratinous spines at the tips. The number varies and they often occur on the scalp, but can also occur on the face and between the toes.
