Is long-term cough asthma?

Long-term coughing is a common phenomenon among people. The occurrence of this phenomenon indicates that people's bodies have been invaded by wind and cold, and they need to be examined and treated. Otherwise, minor illnesses may easily turn into major illnesses, thus affecting the safety of life. Some people think that long-term coughing is an allergic phenomenon, which is what we call asthma. This disease is very harmful. So, is long-term coughing asthma?

When people have a cough, they generally think it is a minor problem that will go away after a while. However, Zhu Benhong, a member of the Asia-Pacific Respiratory Society and an expert at Shanghai Yuanda Cardiothoracic Hospital, told us that cough is usually an early symptom of various respiratory diseases, such as asthma. Its typical symptoms are breathlessness, shortness of breath, and wheezing in the lungs. However, some patients only have a single, long-term cough. Patients do not come to the hospital until the last minute. Some have even developed severe asthma, which poses a threat to their lives. If your cough persists for a month and does not improve, it is best to go to the hospital to check for bronchitis or asthma.

Three large-scale asthma incidence surveys have been conducted nationwide, and the results found that the incidence rate among children is increasing at a rate of 50% per year. The same situation is also obvious among adults. Based on this situation, Professor Zhu Benhong said, "The increasing number of asthma cases is related to the increasingly advanced detection methods. Asthma types that could not be detected before can now be detected. In addition, the number of people with allergic constitutions has increased in recent years, and people with allergic constitutions are more likely to develop asthma than those without allergic constitutions. This is also the reason for the increase in asthma incidence."

There is actually no need to worry about whether long-term cough is asthma. Excessive worry will have an adverse effect on the recovery of the cough. Therefore, when a long-term cough occurs, it is most important to go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time to diagnose the cause and find the best treatment method.
