What types of dentures are there?

Once there is a problem with teeth, it will bring us a lot of inconvenience, seriously affect our chewing ability, and even increase the burden on the stomach and intestines. Sometimes when the teeth have to be pulled out, we need to replace them with dentures, but there are many types of dentures. We must choose the appropriate one according to our oral condition. Let's take a look at the types of dentures.

What types of dentures are there?

Removable dentures: Use the remaining natural teeth or mucosa as support, rely on metal or elastic fiber clasps to fix on the remaining natural adjacent teeth or other related teeth in the mouth, use the base to keep the denture in the proper position to perform the chewing function. Generally, there is a larger base, relying on the clasp and base to stably place the entire denture in the missing part. Its advantages are that it has a wide range of adaptability, can be freely removed and worn, is beneficial to oral hygiene, does not require excessive grinding of adjacent teeth, has no obvious damage to adjacent teeth, and has a wide range of applications. The disadvantages are that they are generally large in size, feel like a foreign body, sometimes affect pronunciation, have exposed metal clasps, affecting the appearance, and feel uncomfortable when first worn. It takes some time to get used to them. This type of denture generally cannot withstand greater bite pressure, and the chewing function is slightly worse.

Full dentures: Full dentures are a restorative method used when all the real teeth are lost. When all the real teeth are lost, the dentures do not have metal clasps and rely entirely on the oral mucosa for retention. The stability is relatively poor. Compared with partial removable dentures, full dentures have a more obvious foreign body sensation and worse chewing function.

Implant dentures: Implant dentures are a restoration method in which implant materials are buried in the alveolar bone (implant), and then dentures are made based on the implant. An artificial metal root nail made of a high-tech emerging material is surgically implanted into the alveolar bone in the toothless area. After 3 to 6 months, when the tooth root is combined with the bone, the denture is repaired on the tooth root. The advantage of this type of denture restoration method is that there is no need to grind down healthy teeth. Dental implants are not only lifelike in shape, but also beautiful and comfortable to use, stable and reliable, without any foreign body sensation, and do not affect pronunciation. The safety of dental implants has been recognized, and they do not affect healthy adjacent teeth. There is no need to grind down healthy teeth on both sides, and food will not be impacted on the contact surface between dentures and healthy teeth, causing new caries on healthy teeth. The disadvantages of implant dentures are that the surgery is expensive and has certain risks; people who are in poor general condition and cannot tolerate surgery cannot undergo dental implants; periodontal condition, alveolar bone morphology and density are also key factors that determine the success of implant dentures.

The above is an introduction to the types of dentures. After understanding, we know that dentures are divided into removable and fixed dentures. We must choose according to our own oral conditions. In addition, we must take special care of our teeth in daily life to make our teeth healthier. We must usually maintain good oral hygiene and cannot always eat hot and cold irritating foods.
