What should be paid attention to when using removable dentures

As living standards continue to improve, more and more people are beginning to realize the importance of health. However, if we want to improve the quality of life, we must ensure the quality of our diet. Once there is a problem with the teeth, it will become a very painful thing, which will cause us to be unable to chew food better. In this case, we have to install dentures, among which removable dentures are the most common one. However, we must pay special attention to it in order not to cause some oral problems. Let's take a look at the precautions for removable dentures.

Precautions for removable dentures

(1) Use it regularly. When wearing removable dentures for the first time, most people will experience a foreign body sensation in the mouth, nausea, drooling, difficulty chewing, difficulty speaking, and a changed voice. These are inevitable phenomena in the early stages of wearing dentures. It usually takes 1-2 months (it may take half a year for people with poor adaptability) to gradually eliminate the symptoms and adapt, so you must persist. However, if severe pain, malocclusion, bleeding, or misalignment occurs, you must ask a doctor to modify the grinding.

(2) Practice eating and speaking correctly. When you first wear dentures, especially if some of the back teeth are missing, you can practice eating small, slow bites of soft food, and then gradually transition to hard food after you get used to it. Those who have difficulty speaking and pronouncing words should also practice step by step and not be impatient.

(3) People with removable dentures should not eat hard-shelled foods such as walnuts and pine nuts, and should not bite nails, iron objects, or the like, to prevent the dentures from wearing out, cracking, becoming dislocated, or falling off. It is best not to use the front teeth to bite and cut food, such as apples, pears, sugar cane, etc., but you should learn to bite and cut with the back teeth.

(4) Eat less sticky and tough foods. Various sticky foods such as glutinous rice cakes, rice dumplings, and soft candies may stick to removable dentures or affect the bite, so you should try to eat less or no sticky foods. Other foods such as tough toffee should also be eaten less.

(5) Put on and take off correctly. When removing removable dentures, you should mainly push and pull the base rather than the clasp. Be careful not to use excessive force when removing it to avoid deformation or breakage of the snap ring. When wearing dentures, avoid biting them to put them in place to prevent the clasp from deforming or breaking.

(6) Pay attention to oral and denture hygiene. In order to maintain oral hygiene and avoid damage to the tissue in the tray area, you should clean it before and after meals, take it off and wash it before going to bed, put it in clean water overnight, and wash it in the morning before wearing it again. Use clean water to wash dentures. Avoid using boiling water or alcohol to prevent deformation. If there are serious yellow stains, you can use an appropriate amount of "tooth tray cleaner" or other special cleaning agents to clean it. Be gentle when washing to avoid damage.

(7)Others. If dentures are broken or worn, they should be repaired or replaced in time. Removable dentures must be taken off and stored before going to bed to avoid accidentally swallowing smoke or accidentally entering the trachea, which may cause adverse consequences. In short, a set of dentures requires the doctor and the patient to work together patiently to achieve the best effect.

The above is an introduction to the precautions for removable dentures. After understanding it, we know that removable dentures must be taken off and cleaned every day, and try not to wear dentures when sleeping. In addition, we must ensure good oral hygiene every day and do not bite too hard food with dentures, otherwise it will easily cause damage to the dentures.
